December 31, 20168 yr Author 7 YEARS :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: I don't think I need to say any more. Nice to see Twenty-Something & If Love Was a Crime here as well! Thanks Pete B-)
December 31, 20168 yr Author Top 30, and ABC's 4th of 5 at 21, the yet-to-be-a-single and touchingly sad romantic Kiss Me Goodbye, lush and fab. Francis & The Lights call-in Bon Iver for a great atmospheric ballad, Friends, and Richard Ashcroft is back at 24 after a good gap since his last top 100 year-end track in the last decade, and 19 years on from his first, second and third featured high in 1997's listing (with The Verve). Highest-placed track to peak outside the top 5 is at 23, the buzzjack entry, and future sales-chart-topper, the fab This Girl from Kungs vs Cookin' etc. Grace makes it 2 in a row as the criminally ignored Hell Of A Girl ends at 25, higher than You Don't Own Me in 2015. My buzzjack song from Fitz & The Tantrums, and minor US hit, Handclap's all round at 26. The Weeknd's top tune of the year is at 27, Secrets featuring a significant Tears For Fears sample (Pale Shelter) which made the list back in 1983. Another track to peak outside the top 5 is the gorgeous BJSC entry from GLADES, Her (Loving You) is both super-sweet and coolly melodic at 30. Sigma's biggest of the year, after having biggies in 2015, is with Take That - who have been having top 100's since 1993 - though sadly Cry didn't hit the chart heights. Coldplay have made the list most years since 2000, and do it this year with the assist of Beyonce, at 29 with Hymn For The Weekend, overshadowing all of her own new material, but giving her another top 100 13 years on from her first solo, and 16 years with Destiny's Child. Just to rub it in, an old Destiny's Child revamp lower down also outdoes her critically-acclaimed new album tracks. I liked them, but I didn't love them. 21 2 20 KISS ME GOODBYE ABC 606100 22 2 15 FRIENDS Francis And The Lights featuring Bon Iver 573550 23 6 21 THIS GIRL (KUNGS VS COOKIN' ON 3 BURNERS RADIO EDIT) Kungs & Cookin' On 3 Burners 559300 24 3 18 HOLD ON Richard Ashcroft 554550 25 2 16 HELL OF A GIRL Grace 541200 26 2 13 HANDCLAP Fitz And The Tantrums 515400 27 2 5 SECRETS The Weeknd featuring Tears For Fears 515000 28 3 14 CRY Sigma featuring Take That 485300 29 4 17 HYMN FOR THE WEEKEND Coldplay featuring Beyonce 482650 30 6 20 HER (LOVING YOU) GLADES 482550
December 31, 20168 yr Author 20. 2 16 FAMILIAR Agnes Obel 624700 32kYH6XZrIo Haunting yet gorgeous BJSC entry from dandy, stark and lush and beautiful.
December 31, 20168 yr Author 19. 3 22 HOME WE’LL GO (TAKE MY HAND) Steve Aoki and Walk Off The Earth 635650 kAwSQq44O_U As, with Agnes, another obscure gem at 19. Walk Off The Earth have had 2 previous listed in the 100's of 2 recent years, and Steve Aoki has now had a hit with Louis Tomlinson in the UK, but this one should have done it too. Whistlingly singalong.
December 31, 20168 yr Author 18. 1 17 NIRVANA Squeeze 644500 hrCK46qAG78 70's veterans Glen and Chris were back together and on form with this chirpy, tuneful slow-salsa-ish gem. Not a hit of course, but as fab as anything they have done, and a first chart-topper for them after patiently waiting 38 years. All bar one from hereon are number ones...
December 31, 20168 yr Author 17. 1 13 CRAZY FOR YOU Zonderling featuring Bishop 731700 A1CKiO8CbEs Classic, slightly distorted, dance from Leww and the BJSC, throbbingly wonderful.
December 31, 20168 yr Author 16. 1 19 THE FLAMES OF DESIRE ABC 769750 96Xz6G8l8Lc The top of 5 for 80's cool purveyors of sophisticated, orchestral EDM pop, this was their big airplay hit from the hit album. Lush!
December 31, 20168 yr Author 15. 1 20 CAN’T STOP THE FEELING! Justin Timberlake 770400 ru0K8uYEZWw Trolls track, and 18 years since 'NSYNC started giving Justin big year-end entries in my 100's, he's back with a great pop tune. It remains to seen whether this turns out to be the top-selling track of 2016 in the UK (they tend not announce that these days) but it certainly outsold the overhyped streamed-endlessly Drake, which kept it off the top of the Official UK Chart. It's still selling well, gets a crowd going in a pub, the film is pushing sales, so my guess is this is the top track of the year.
December 31, 20168 yr Author 14. 2 15 GO! M83 featuring Mai Lan 829000 U3YZTYXftzg Following a fab Jools Holland performance, this became my top tune of the year to not top my charts, play loud and it's just marvellous, smooth, catchy, great vocals from Mai Lan, a Nasa-style countdown, and possibly the best guitar solo of 2016 turn this understated EDM track into something special. Cool.
December 31, 20168 yr Author 13. 1 32 OTRA ERA Javiera Mena 865250 NUCZG09ehLM Talking of cool, Chilean EDM artist Javiera is just an obsession of mine this year, with this super-smooth latin-tinged Spanish-language song. Love it to bits, and it topped my chart after Sevenseize spotted it for the BJSC. Great video, and the longest runner of the year. I wish I could speak Spanish....
December 31, 20168 yr Author 12 1 19 THE POP KIDS Pet Shop Boys 879500 yyPTlC255to I went to see the lads at the Royal Opera House, and they were (as always) fab, this lead single off the new album Super, had a classic PSB feel to it, a really good pop song that wouldnt have sounded out of place in their prime. As they are my top act of the last 30 years though, they have never been out of their prime for me. Still 2 more from Chris n Neil to come.
December 31, 20168 yr Author 11. 1 24 SAY IT TO ME Pet Shop Boys 954650 r1zP12SaeqI Talking of classic-sounding Pet Shop Boys, this one leaped out straight away as the most instant great future-single off the album when I bought it, and it duly came out - even though they didn't do it at the RAH gig! Outrageous! I'm hoping this makes it way into one of the next 2 concerts I've got lined up, one in Bournemouth in Feb, and one with Suedey at the Royal Albert Hall with an Orchestra & Johnny Marr.
December 31, 20168 yr Hey John! My favourites since I last commented are This Girl & Can't Stop The Feeling! <3 Both have surprisingly felt like they have gotten better & better as the year has gone on and both are great tracks! Hyped to see your top 10! (Emeli to win *.*)
January 1, 20178 yr Hi Pete! I am glad to see both Zondering, m83 and Justin Timberlake in that top 20. JT may be a bit overplayed for some but I still enjoy it a lot tbh

January 1, 20178 yr Author Hi Pete! I am glad to see both Zondering, m83 and Justin Timberlake in that top 20. JT may be a bit overplayed for some but I still enjoy it a lot tbh thanks Harry, I still love JT though it's not fresh like it was, but it will sound good again in years to come after a break from it
January 1, 20178 yr Author 10. 1 14 HOUSE OF CARDS Red Sky July 992750 fwV78c02bj4 Still in my charts, Red Sky July (aka Alisha's Attic/Texas) are one of the best-kept secret British country acts, this fantastic lovely atmospheric track has only had 400+ views on youtube, no airplay, no promo and the original recording is just brilliant. Criminal.
January 1, 20178 yr Author 9. 1 25 HOTTER THAN HELL Dua Lipa 1035300 fEOyePhElr4 One of the current crop of pop acts that I can get fully behind, her biggest of 2 in my chart, and a British potential big pop star for the next few years, this is such a fabulous song, and she gives it some oomph vocally. In a year when my charts and the official charts have parted ways to a large extent, we can both share the love for Dua.
January 1, 20178 yr Author 8. 1 17 FIRST TIME HE KISSED A BOY Kadie Elder 1079450 et8R5fZOARo Still charting also, I came across this while randomly clicking on youtube songs to see where it took me for a Buzzjack SC entry. I had several good potentials, but dropped them immediately on hearing this fab Scandi-EDM pop gem. It was love at first hearing for me, though the video was also effective, but it's the sentiment and perfect construction of the record that gives it legs, it's a giant hook from start to finish, and pure class.
January 1, 20178 yr Author 7. 1 20 ONE LAST NIGHT Vaults 1087250 NDfrS-uvI0Q Well, I hung around after a BJSC playthingy and everyone slipped off one by one, till just 3 hung about, and Harry put this on as a potential, and it was love at first hearing for me (again!) and this 50 Shades Of Grey soundtrack song, just beautiful, and a great singer and arrangement to boot. I'm pleased they got a hit of sorts with One Day I'll Fly Away, but this should have been a huge hit.
