Pretty sure there was two TOTDs during the Sound Of last year when there was a joint winner or something, but anyways, very exciting!

Yes you are correct Mura Masa and WSTRN were joint 5th in the Sound of 2016!!

WSTRN's "Got Love" and Mura Masa "Love For That" were the joint TOTD's on R1 that day!!

Well in that case, I stand corrected :)

Wish they'll select 'Caroline' by Amine as TOTD soon, so much potential... although it seems 'Bad & Boujee' has caught on first and seemingly space for only one American rap hit at a time blowing up.

BBC Radio 1’s Future Festival returns on Tuesday 17 January to reveal the hottest new acts of 2017.

In an intimate gig co-hosted by Radio 1’s MistaJam and Huw Stephens and broadcast live on BBC Radio 1 from the legendary BBC Maida Vale Studios, the three-hour show (7pm-10pm) will look ahead at the year to come, with performances from rising stars:

MistaJam says: “This year's Future Festival line-up features some of the most exciting and diverse new artists from around the world that have been championed across BBC Radio 1's specialist output for some time, all destined to break out in 2017. From the neon pop/R&B of Alma to the straight-up rock of The Amazons via the South London street tales of Dave, be prepared to be introduced to your new favourite act.”

Huw Stephens says: “Once again we've got some brilliant artists ready to play live for the Radio 1 listeners at the start of this year. With bands like The Big Moon and The Amazons who've been gigging hard for the last year, to super talented emcees like Dave and Nadia Rose, it's going to be a great night. And all in the legendary BBC Maida Vale studios, unrivalled around the world!”

The Amazons say: "Thanks to BBC and Radio 1 for inviting us to play Future Festival. We've had the pleasure of doing a session for Huw at Maida Vale before but this time it's in front of an audience! We can't wait!"

Radio 1’s Future Festival is the go-to show for hearing the most exciting new artists tipped for big things in the coming year. Previous artists to perform at the event include The 1975, Sam Smith, George Ezra, A$AP Rocky, James Bay, Disclosure, Royal Blood and Stormzy - who all went on to have successful years, with support from Radio 1 throughout.

Ticket registration opens at 7.30pm on Tuesday 10 January and closes at 8pm on Thursday 12 January.

Some good hottest records this week - particularly looking forward to the follow up for Isombard!
Interesting that they're potentially going to support Calum's second single, when they only begrudgingly supported the first
I though 'Rhythm Inside' had been and gone a couple of months back. Regional stations where I live have been all over it for ages and they're usually waaaay behind when it comes to supporting new music (best example was them playing 'brand new' music from The Chainsmokers last month - it was 'Closer').

I think R1 are just testing 'Rhythm Inside' before they decide to support it or not.

I don't think they'll playlist it seeing as it's flopping bigly (#192 on iTunes currently) and they weren't huge on DOMO.

R1 Throwback Thursday 12/1/17:

Rihanna - Disturbia

Audio Bullys - Shot You Down (feat. Nancy Sinatra)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix)

Blu Cantrell & Sean Paul - Breathe

3OH!3 - Starstrukk (feat. Katy Perry)

Girls Aloud - Biology

Tinie Tempah - Pass Out

Asian Network recently became part of the BBC’s youth radio stations under the direction of Ben Cooper, and for the first time ever Asian Network Live will be triplecast - broadcast across the BBC’s youth radio stations Asian Network, Radio 1 and 1Xtra.

Hosted by the Asian Network DJ family including Tommy Sandhu, the event, which represents the best in Asian music as championed by the station, will see some of the hottest acts on the British-Asian and global music scenes come together on one stage for one night only.

Naughty Boy returns to perform new material featuring Kyla and Indian hip-hop superstar Badshah makes an exclusive UK performance, including a new track with Major Lazer-collaborator Anirudh. UK Hip-Hop and Punjabi music producer Steel Banglez will also present some of the most exciting UK artists including MIST and MoStack (both ‘Hot For 2017’ artist tips on 1Xtra), Abra Cadabra and Haile from WSTRN.

The event, now in its second year, is open to all ages and promises to be bigger and better in 2017 with more special guests to be announced. Tickets for Asian Network Live will go on full sale on Wednesday 11 January at 8.10am in Tommy Sandhu’s show on BBC Radio Asian Network.

Badshah says: "I’m honored to represent India and bring the magic of Bollywood this year to the BBC Asian Network Live in London at the event at the Apollo in Hammersmith. I had an amazing time at the first ever BBC Asian Network Live last year and can't wait to see you all on 25 February and bring the biggest party of the season to you.”

Tommy Sandhu says: “Now that it's 2017, the countdown feels like it's officially on to the best Asian music spectacular in the world. Last year was bigger and better than anyone could have expected and we'll be bringing the party to Hammersmith again ... get ready!”

Mark Strippel, Head of Programmes, Asian Network, says: “Asian Network Live is a unique global culture-clash that brings together some of the best British and international artists of South-Asian origin, in collaboration with artists that inspire our young and growing audience. I’m particularly pleased that we have Badshah and Naughty Boy back to headline Asian Network’s flagship event, and that we’ll be joined by Radio 1 and 1Xtra for the first time.”

For the first time ever, Asian Network Live will be triplecast across Asian Network, Radio 1 and 1Xtra. Asian Network will be covering all of the live build-up from 6pm, followed by the live show from 7.30pm -11pm which will also be broadcast across Radio 1 and 1Xtra, hosted by Asian Network’s Yasser. The show will also be live streamed on Asian Network’s website and BBC iPlayer, with highlights available on Asian Network’s YouTube channel, BBC iPlayer and Red Button.

Only interested in Naughty Boy, WSTRN & Zack Knight. The rest will probably listened to by 1Xtra viewers.

On the Callum Scott saga, I don't even believe Dancing On My Own was even a proper single. It was more of a cover song that wasn't intended to suddenly storm the charts, it was more of a taste of what he can do to songs and R1 was forced to support it late due to the success of it.

Rhythm Inside is to me the first proper single from him so I have high hopes that this will get playlisted and will stay on longer than Dancing On My Own.

Oh the Head Will Roll remix by Yeah Yeah Yeahs is fantastic!!

I'm not going to post this week's Nixtape playlist as it's basically the same as the one on the 2nd December. :drama:

Hottest Records:

12/1/17: Syd - All About Me

13/1/17: Detlef - Swagon (feat. Ossey James)

Next week's Hottest Record's will come from Maggie Rovers (Monday) & Mallory Knox (Thursday) plus unannounced Hottest Records on Wednesday & Friday. I Don't think there will be a HR on Tuesday due to the Future Festival.

Ed Sheeran Party Playlist 12/1/17:

Stevie Wonder - Master Blaster (Jammin')

Post Malone - Big Lie

On the Breakfast Show next week, Grimmy's guests are Vicky Pattison (Monday) & Maisie Williams. (Tuesday) Innuendo Bingo will feature Will Best on Tuesday & Conor Maynard on Thursday while on Greg's Show, Richard Osman is a guest on Tuesday, Scott & Chris will be Raging Against The Answer Machine on Wednesday & Dev Patel joins as a guest on Thursday.
