Australia has caught up with the US & UK as "Despacito" has now hit #1 here. Unsurprisingly this is the first time at #1 for Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee, but Justin Bieber continues to add to his tally. After "What Do You Mean", "Love Yourself", "Cold Water" and "I'm The One", this is now his 5th #1 hit here, which means he overtakes Bryan Adams to be the Canadian artist with the most #1 singles. Meanwhile, we had a new debut high up on the chart. With strong performance on sales & streams, Miley Cyrus scores her highest ever debut with "Malibu" at #3, which is also her 2nd highest charting single to date after the #2 peaking "Wrecking Ball", and her 7th top 10 hit. It's otherwise a generally quiet week on the singles chart, notably a tour announcement has nearly every Ed Sheeran track rebounding back up, he has 6 more tracks in the chart than he did a fortnight ago.

 

There's a new #1 on the album chart as well. Ed Sheeran comes with a huge sales increase this week, but it's not quite enough to topple the debut album from Harry Styles, which takes the #1 spot despite a bit of a deficit in album streams. This follows suit with ZAYN whose debut album also hit the top spot last year, though Harry did so with much higher sales. We then take a long step downward to reach the #3 album, Paramore being unable to continue their run of #1's which they achieved with 2009's "Brand New Eyes" and 2013's "Paramore". The last big debut of the week comes from Zac Brown Band, who score their second top 10 album though they don't reach their peak, as 2015's "Jekyll + Hyde" debuted at #6. Next week I suspect Ed Sheeran will safely return to the top, while Linkin Park will try for a #2 album. We may also see high re-entries from the various catalogues of the recently passed Chris Cornell, maybe "Black Hole Sun" could even re-enter the singles chart.

Shaping up to be one of the biggest hits of the year, "Despacito" has no problem staying at #1, while Justin Bieber continues his quinella with "I'm The One" at #2. There's almost no change in the top 10 this week but there is a new arrival, with Niall Horan's "Slow Hands" rising up to #10 to become his 2nd top 10 hit. Incidentally, with this climb, he causes fellow band mate Liam Payne to debut at #11 just like he did 2 weeks ago. Liam is now top 10 on both iTunes & Spotify so he may be able to climb up next week. Also debuting this week is Selena Gomez's new single which is her highest ever debut apart from "It Ain't Me" by entering at #13. Katy Perry returns to the debut position of "Bon Appetit" while also scoring another top 40 debut with "Swish Swish". Enough people managed to find out the title of the Imagine Dragons song to get them a 2nd top 40 single this year, while Camila Cabello's debut solo single just gets into the top 50 thanks to a decent digital start. Special mention must also go to Soundgarden, after Chris Cornell's passing, their biggest hit "Black Hole Sun" has re-entered the top 50 (while Audioslave's "Like A Stone" also re-enters lower down).

 

As look to be the case whenever there isn't a major new release, Ed Sheeran returns to #1 for a 10th week at the top. Harry Styles maintains another solid week of sales to stay at #2, meaning Linkin Park can only manage a #3 debut, which is the same peak as their last album, with all of their studio albums having reached the top 3. Chris Cornell's passing also allows for the debut album for Audioslave, and the particularly popular "Superunknown" album (which curiously was already in the chart last week) to surge into the top 10. For Audioslave this is actually a new peak. Local folk duo Pierce Brothers score a new peak and 2nd top 10 album, though it is with an EP. A deluxe repackaging of blink-182's last album causes the Grammy-nominated "Built This Pool" and other songs to return to the top 10. Even without Soundgarden & Audioslave, it's quite a nostalgic '90s/'00s week, with other debuts from Rascal Flatts, DragonForce & Papa Roach. Next week's top debut will likely be from Powderfinger singer gone solo Bernard Fanning, though I don't suspect he'll reach the top spot.

Yet again we have the same unchanged top 3. Things will no doubt erupt next week with the combination of some big hits being covered on The Voice, and the effect of the Manchester tribute spilling over to here as well. Big beneficiary is of course Ariana Grande's "One Last Time", which just sneaks into the lower half of the chart this week, but looks to move up a lot next week as it's currently #3 combined on iTunes. It has previously peaked at #15 but it's too tough to say if it can match this. Niall Horan also looks to climb considerably next week, with both of his singles currently top 10 on iTunes, "Slow Hands" was possibly only 2 or 3 sales away from hitting the top spot last night. Speaking of 1D alumni, Liam Payne makes up for last week's unlucky debut and climbs into the top 10 this week, making Louis the only member without a top 10 hit. The added Kendrick Lamar remix gives Future's "Mask Off" a jolt up to #13 this week. Martin Garrix & Rita Ora have strong initial support for their new debuting singles, though Garrix is lagging on sales now and might have trouble climbing. For those who like the chart to be accurate (like me), it's a good week as we finally get the much delayed debuts for Maggie Lindemann & Lil Uzi Vert straight in the top 50, while Starley's "Call On Me" which peculiarly disappeared for 2 weeks is back in, perhaps for one last week in the top 50. I suspect French Montana's "Unforgettable" is currently missing from the chart but should possibly debut next week.

 

Business as usual on the album chart, Ed Sheeran has his 11th week at the top, having only taken 2 weeks off the top spot since release. Less than a year after his last album, Bernard Fanning releases another one which appears to be a companion album, given the opposing titles. He peaks at #2 yet again, having previously hit the top spot twice with his first two albums, as well as 5 more times as the lead singer of Powderfinger. Ever prolific post-hardcore band In Hearts Wake are also back in the chart, their newest album "Ark" reaching #3, one less than their last album, but their 3rd top 5 album overall. While not as enthusiastic as the Britons, Australia embraces the 50 year anniversary of The Beatles' Sgt. Peppers album which re-enters at #5. Lastly, the top 10 sees a new debut for local punk veterans Frenzal Rhomb, who despite reaching their commercial peak nearly 20 years ago, have never had a top 10 album until this week. Next week we may have Halsey & alt-J both competing to match their previous #2 chart peaks, while local singer songwriter Pete Murray and perhaps All Time Low will also reach the top 10.

If you expect "Despacito" to be challenged, you are sorely mistaken. It has been challenged on iTunes a little recently, but its dominance shows no signs of stopping at this point. It is possible that we'll be seeing a full Justin Bieber top 3 next week, though that's dependent on how "2U" can climb on streams, and how "I'm The One" can hold on sales. Niall Horan's "Slow Hands" has become a challenger since the Manchester concert, and it outpeaks "This Town" this week, reaching #3. As far as solo One Direction singles go, only "Pillowtalk" and "Sign Of The Times" have reached higher. He's not alone in the top 5 either as Liam Payne's "Strip That Down" has now climbed to #5. Despite #11 & #12 both getting sales boosts this week, the top 10 is the same 10 songs as last week. Having previously charted exclusively in the 20s, Halsey's album release sees a big boost for "Now Or Never" into the top 20. As expected, "One Last Time" re-enters the top 50, though only at #35 as it doesn't quite have the same streaming support as in the UK, it reaches a new peak of #11 on the digital tracks chart though. Streaming support is the way to go with reaching the top 50 though, as evident with this week's entries from Major Lazer, Peking Duk & Lorde. Foo Fighters outsold all 3 of them but can only reach #53, which I believe is their highest chart position this decade. French Montana's UK top 5 hit "Unforgettable" is finally let onto the chart, and as it cracked the Spotify top 50 recently, expect it to do the same on this chart next week. Childish Gambino's "Redbone" also looks to re-enter the top 50 for the first time since February. It has actually never left the ARIA top 100 since release and is a good chance of making the End of Year chart despite only peaking at #30.

 

It's a big week of new album releases, and you know what that means, the public ignore it all to keep Sheeran at the top. It's unlucky times for Halsey who scores her 2nd #2 peaking album. Behind her is Pete Murray, who despite not having a hit this time around, outpeaks his previous album, which only reached #6. Before that, his first 3 albums all reached the top spot with multiplatinum sales. On the other hand, alt-J are slipping a bit back this time around. They reached their highest peak with their last album debuting at #2, though with stronger competition, their 3rd album only reaches #4. All Time Low are also a little short of their best effort, but score a 2nd top 5 peaking album this week. Lastly in the top 10 is Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, who scores his first solo top 10 album in 27 years this week. Next week looks to be packed with new releases, so expect Sheeran at #1 again. #2 contenders will come from Hillsong UNITED, Katy Perry, London Grammar, Lady Antebellum & Rise Against, it's quite possible they'll debut #2-#6.

Ouch, that's pretty disastrous for The Veronicas.

They had TV promo this week so they'll be up, potentially top 10 digital overall, not that it counts for a lot these days.

What I've said every week continues to hold true, "Despacito"'s reign sees no threat in the forseeable future. It was nearly toppled on iTunes yesterday by Jennifer Hudson's "Remember Me"(!) but now it's smooth sailing on sales and streaming. As is obligatory, a new Justin Bieber song gets super high in the charts, replacing another Justin Bieber featuring song at the #2 spot. This is David Guetta's highest charting single since "Lovers On The Sun" also peaked at #2, and with lagging sales, it may be set for a similarly underwhelming chart run. Meanwhile, Liam Payne & Niall Horan swap places and thus share a #3 peak with their latest solo releases. A wonderful thing has happened and "Redbone" returns to the top 40, while as somewhat predicted, The Veronicas do reach top 10 (#10 in fact) on digital tracks, which amounts to a #41 position on the ARIA Chart as they're yet to reach the top 200 on Spotify I think.

 

Speaking of my occasional correct predictions of the album chart, we have 5 high new entries in the positions #2-#6. From what I've read, just 1 sale separated Katy Perry & London Grammar, both landing 1 spot lower than their previous albums. For the first time this year, we've got a Hillsong album in the top 10, their tally now up to 22 in all incarnations. Rise Against continue to choose bad release weeks, but score a 4th consecutive top 10 album, having gotten as high as #2 with 2011's "Endgame". Lastly, though their chart runs are getting shorter and shorter, Lady Antebellum are consistent with a 5th top 10 album, all between #4 & #8. Next week we should get a much needed reprieve from Sheeran as Lorde looks likely to get another #1 album. Twitter friends Nickelback & Royal Blood should also land in the top 5.

A bit late so I'll make it quick. Despacito is up to 6 weeks at #1, still looks safe for further weeks. Liam Payne climbs to #2 making "Strip That Down" the outright 3rd highest solo 1D charter after "Sign Of The Times" and "PILLOWTALK". "Wild Thoughts" is DJ Khaled's 2nd top 10 hit and Rihanna's 31st. It's also Bryson Tiller's first time charting though his non-charting single "Don't" recently became the first non-charter to be certified platinum. Thanks to performing on The Voice, Jennifer Hudson gets her first ever lead artist top 50 hit, with "Remember Me" as high as #7 on digital sales.

 

New #1 album this week courtesy of Lorde, just as it was with "Pure Heroine" in 2013. She's also the first to unseat Ed Sheeran for most album streams for the week since it's been introduced to the chart. Ed Sheeran is of course still strong in that department, which keeps him ahead of Nickelback who outsold him, but can only reach #3. It's similarly slight diminishing returns for Royal Blood, who enter 1 spot lower than their debut album did in 2014. Fleet Foxes score a 2nd top 10 with their 3rd album. Next week we'll see if Lorde can fend off the Sheeran menace, while high new entries will come from Imagine Dragons and DJ Khaled.

7 weeks in a row for "Despacito" now. It's starting to show some weakness on iTunes with the airing of The Voice grand final pushing it down to #5. Currently #1 is Niall Horan, who is however relatively low on Spotify, but he may be able to match Liam's #2 peak next week. Instead at #2 this week is "Wild Thoughts", which is actually only Rihanna's 3rd song to peak at #2 as it stands, the other two being "Unfaithful" and "We Found Love". Jonas Blue gets his 3rd top 10 hit this week, while Charlie Puth gets his 5th. In fact every Charlie Puth track to chart thus far has reached the top 10. It also graciously ends "Shape Of You"'s top 10 run just in time before it can break The Prodigy & Guns N' Roses' record for longest top 10 run. On the topic of The Voice, last week had Jessica Mauboy perform her latest single, which sent it to #1 on iTunes but only #20 on ARIA. It's gaining some streaming traction so it could climb in the future. Lastly, Khalid's "Location" finally is let on the chart, it's been delayed so long that it's already certified Gold.

 

On the album front, top debut honours go to everyone's favourite psych garage rockers, as King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard release their 2nd album for the year, landing just one spot lower than last time. In doing so they keep Imagine Dragons at #4, which is the same peak position as their first two albums. DJ Khaled also debuts just 1 spot lower than his last album, but it's his 2nd top 10 album nonetheless. Perhaps the major news of this week was anniversary re-releases. The first of these is probably familiar to you, with Radiohead's much publicised "OK Computer" re-release coming in at #6, which is actually a new peak for the album which previously debuted and peaked at #7 (every Radiohead album since has peaked at #2). The other one is a local favourite, as Aussie rockers Grinspoon have celebrated the anniversary of perhaps their most beloved album "Guide To Better Living". Similarly to Radiohead, they reach a new peak as the album originally peaked at #11 back in 1997. Next week we'll see Stone Sour & Calvin Harris duke it out for top debut honours, though likely not challenging the top spot.

That's 8 weeks for "Despacito", which means it overtakes "Love Yourself"'s 7 weeks as Justin Bieber's longest reigning chart topper. If you want that to change...you're not in luck as "Despacito" is currently #1 on iTunes & Spotify again. Niall Horan did get the digital #1 this week however, and matches Liam Payne's "Strip That Down" peak of #2. In new peak news, Imagine Dragons have bafflingly reached #6 with "Thunder", matching "Radioactive" as their highest peak. Calvin Harris also returns to the top 10 for the first time since "My Way", with "Feels" at #9. Otherwise this was a bit of a slow week especially considering that The Voice was about the only thing that mattered. The victor Judah Kelly has his song "Count On Me" (not a Bruno Mars cover) in the top 20, while runner up Hoseah has "Paper Planes" (not an M.I.A. cover) in the top 40 as well. This is pretty impressive considering last year's winner couldn't even crack the top 50. Also to note is that Katy Perry performed on The Voice finale sending "Swish Swish" to a new peak and keeping "Witness" in the top 10.

 

Speaking of the album chart, it's another bore at the top, while Stone Sour have the highest debut at #2. The band have previously reached the top 10 twice, but this is a new high for them. Calvin Harris debuts at #5, which if it sounds lacklustre, it's partially because of reasons unknown that none of his album streams counted...it just happens on ARIA for some reason. Correctly counted, he'd definitely be at least #4 and come close to #3, which would match his highest debut with "Motion" in 2014. As Ed Sheeran's sales aren't super strong at present, it's possible he could be challenged next week, with both Haim & Jay-Z contending for their first ever #1 album, but knowing my luck he'll probably be #1 again.

The reign of "Despacito" sees no signs of stopping as it notches up week 9 and maintains a top spot on both iTunes & Spotify even without the non-remix version in tow. Noteworthy action in the top 10 is Calvin Harris's "Feels" moving up to #5, which is his highest charting single since "This Is What You Came For", and also now Big Sean's highest ever charter. Kesha leads off the debuts with "Praying", her first time in the top 50 since 2013. The only other top 50 debut is from Zedd & Liam Payne, which unlike their previous singles, looks like it's struggling to get off the ground.

 

In the battle for top debuts, Jay-Z takes the gong, with "4:44" at #3, which is a slight retreat for him as his last album peaked at #2, as did Haim's first album (behind Lorde's newly debuting "Pure Heroine" as it were), but now they land at #4. Calvin Harris's streams appear to be correctly recorded this week as he maintains a #5 position. Also just outside the top 10 is Australian indie pop band The Jungle Giants, who narrowly reach a new chart height of #11, having previously reached #12 back in 2013, unlike Jay-Z & Haim, they had the time to release another album between these two years. Hopes for a new #1 album next week look grim, but perhaps Meg Mac's long awaited debut can pull it off?

If you want a new #1, you've been swiftly denied yet again, and look to do so indefinitely. "Despacito" lands 10 weeks at the top, and is set for an 11th. It has been dethroned on iTunes by "Thunder" for some reason, which has become Imagine Dragons' first top 5 single. The #2 position continues to be a revolving door with Liam Payne back at the helm. With presumably thanks to a TV spot, Jessica Mauboy's "Fallin" climbs to a new peak of #11, making it the highest charting Australian track released this year. This week's album chart also maintains, with the highest debut at #2 being the much awaited debut album from Australian singer-songwriter Meg Mac. Also for a first time ever, a Punk Goes Pop compilation reaches the top 10. Next week looks to be busy with new albums from Lana Del Rey, Vera Blue & Tyler, The Creator. And of course following the passing of Chester Bennington, we'll likely see big re-entries for Hybrid Theory, Meteora & One More Light.

There is no stopping the "Despacito" train. It's crawling its way up the ranks as one of the longest ever running #1's with it picking up an 11th this week and most likely a 12th next week. The closest contender is bafflingly "Thunder" which has the sales lead on iTunes but streaming is a little behind. Meanwhile Calvin Harris keeps climbing up with "Feels", and Macklemore picks up a 7th top 10 hit with "Glorious", because Australia. The top 10 is closed with the biggest news of the week, with Chester Bennington's death leading to a sales spike en masse of all things Linkin Park. They even have, if you can believe it, more than 3 re-entries on the chart, with a total of 16 tracks all up in the top 100. The highest of which is "In The End" which returns to the top 10 for the first time in 15 years. There are no new peaks to speak of though "Papercut" comes a few places shy, and of course the title track to "One More Light" makes its way in as a new entry. Also Louis Tomlinson debuts a new track just 1 place lower than "Just Hold On" did before going on to peak at #20.

 

The Linkin Park news continues on the album chart but they stop just short of taking the top spot. That instead goes to Lana Del Rey who is now 4 for 4 with #1 albums. Only One Direction have as many #1 albums as her this decade. And so at #2 we have "Hybrid Theory" returning to its original peak from back in the day, while "One More Light" and "Meteora" also find a way into the top 5. The charts were not shy of debuts either, and if not for Linkin Park, we'd have been seeing top 5 debuts for Vera Blue & Tyler, The Creator. But for both of them, these are their first top 10 albums, with Vera Blue previously charting under her given name of Celia Pavey when she was a finalist on The Voice Australia. This week also saw the passing of a local hero, blind indigenous singer Dr. G Yunupingu, whose highly successful 2008 debut album re-enters the top 50 with just a couple days of sales in reaction to the news. Next week we'll see if Arcade Fire can get their first #1 album, or otherwise succumb to the mighty power of MOR from either Ed Sheeran, Passenger or Voice winner Judah Kelly. Dan Sultan may find his way to a top 10 debut also.

how is 'Thunder' doing that well?? I don't seem to recall any of their other singles peaking so high in Australia.

The only thing that makes sense to me is if it's on a TV commercial or something (I wouldn't know), its airplay hasn't even been great, it's always been full price on iTunes, and for quite a while it was just one of those songs that were sticking in the charts due to Spotify playlists. They've only previously had Radioactive, On Top Of The World (one of the flukiest top 10 hits ever :P) and Sucker For Pain in the top 10, but none hit the top 5.

Radioactive was massive though, 6x Platinum but ofc that isn't a reason for this smashing :lol: It's such a weak song for them too, it's so identikit song made for Spotify playlists :/

 

Also wow at it taking until near the end of July for the highest charting Aussie track and it gets to #11 :rofl: Aus really need to appreciate local acts more.

In one of the most exciting weeks in living memory, the top 4 is unchanged, the dropouts are nearly exclusively Linkin Park songs, and the only top 50 debut is a song that has been held off from the chart for weeks. Of note however, "Despacito" is now the equal 2nd longest running #1 hit of the century, behind only that other song from earlier this year whose name I try to forget. Kesha also scores her first top 10 hit since "Timber" and 10th overall. "Back To You" has matched the peak of "Just Hold On" and looks to climb further in the coming weeks. Album chart is more of the same at the top, but there are a lot of debuts up in that zone. Arcade Fire continue to peak higher with each successive album, and have their 4th consecutive top 10 album with "Everything Now". Judah Kelly has the highest charting album from The Voice in several years. Alice Cooper scores his highest charting album since the '80s, while local artist Dan Sultan scores his second top 5 album to date. For Passenger it's his 4th top 10 album. Next week looks quiet on the new release front save for a top 5 chance for Boo Seeka's debut album. Following today's news we could see an influx of Glen Campbell albums.

"Despacito" has now been #1 for 13 weeks, which in the ARIA Chart era, is only matched by "Gangsta's Paradise" and surpassed by that shape song. Imagine Dragons creep ever closer to the top spot but this will be as close as they get, as Australia's unofficial prime minister P!nk has released a new song which will no doubt be taking the #1 slot this weekend. As "Unforgettable" spends its 14th week in the UK top 10, it finally gets there here after two unlucky weeks at #11. Dua Lipa maintains consistency with all of her top 50 singles also reaching the top 20, 4 in total (only "Blow Your Mind" has also charted below the top 50). In yet another thrilling week of new arrivals, there are just 2 along with 1 re-entry, and the only songs leaving, are ones which re-entered recently anyway ("Heavy", "Skin", "Don't Leave"). The album chart doesn't fair much differently. Boo Seeka land their debut album in the top 10, but it's so quiet that Lorde & Kendrick are back in the top 3. Next week will have more going on, but it's hard to say for certain whether the #1 position is in threat. If anyone does take it, it'll be Paul Kelly or Kesha.
