Also, the football match on BBC 1 that aired at 15:35 rated 4.08m (26%) (peak of 5.31m) and the millionth and one repeat of Skyfall rated 902k (4.2%) on ITV 2.

Great to see Countryfile, Still Open All Hours and Call the Midwife achieve their highest ratings of their current series. Apple Tree Yard holding up better than expected - it achieved pretty much the same peak as last week's episode (both were at the start of the episode i.e. viewers left over from CTM) but hit a slightly lower low of 4.82m (compared to 5.04m last week).

Endeavour had a series average of 4.67m which is only 60k down on the average for Series 3.

Series Averages for Endeavour:

Pilot (2012): 6.77m (28.0%)

Series 1 (2013): 5.63m (23.1%)

Series 2 (2014): 5.13m (22.9%)

Series 3 (2016): 4.73m (19.1%)

Series 4 (2017): 4.67m (20.0%)

Tina & Bobby has had a series average of 3.89m.

Sundays is such a stronghold for BBC One, ITV does well to have the middling figures it has been getting with Dance Dance Dance and Endeavour.

Do you have any idea on ratings for CBBBOTS?

I'm afraid not, other than the BARB figures on their official site where only one or two episodes rate enough to chart in the Top 30.

Thanks, just had a look and apparently it had 870K last Friday. Isn't that more than Xtra Factor?

Yeh, I think overall it does do better than The Xtra Factor, especially in proportion of viewers from the main show to the side show.

The Xtra Factor actually surprisingly does quite badly in terms of side shows, Britain's Got More Talent and I'm a Celeb: Extra Camp do double its figures! I guess that's why The Xtra Factor has been axed.

It is a shame but I'm not at all surprised tbh. Last night's episode did nothing to retain Thursday's viewers and I think they'll have turned over half way, so 6.9m was pretty much what I expected. I mean, it's better than the 6.4m/6.5m that the Monday episodes were previously getting and I think ratings will hold up okay throughout the week, but it's just a lost opportunity.

Silent Witness has averaged 5.82m this series, 300k down on last year's.

Previous Silent Witness Series Averages:

2010: 6.22m (24.0%)

2011: 6.67m (25.2%)

2012: 5.37m (21.6%)

2013: 5.59m (23.3%)

2014: 5.48m (22.9%)

2015: 5.98m (25.1%)

2016: 6.12m (26.5%)

2017: 5.82m (26.1%)

2010 onward is when Silent Witness was aired in its current January slot, apart from 2012 when it aired in April. Easily one of the most consistent long running dramas, probably rivalling only Doctor Who.

Call the Midwife's first episode this series has jumped from 7.72m to 9.78m (a 2.06m time-shift) which is similar to the first episode of the previous series, which moved 7.98m to 9.88m (a 1.90m time-shift.) The second episode could well be over 10m according to BARB's 7-day data and I think the whole series, like last series, could all be over 10m when it comes to 28-day data.

I'm quite surprised at the time-shift for Eastenders' 9pm Friday episode - 1.58m time-shift from 4.51m to 6.09m. The show doesn't usually improve like that when it's out of slot or against Emmerdale etc.

-x-

28-Day data for the week 26 Dec to 1st Jan has come in. Here's a look at some notable time-shifts from 7-Day data to 28-Day:

Sherlock: 11.33m -> 12.85m

Mrs Brown's Boys: 8.78m -> 9.04m

The Witness for the Prosecution (Episode 1): 6.97m -> 7.70m

Jonathan Creek: 6.73m -> 7.28m

Outnumbered: 6.87m -> 7.03m

The Witness for the Prosecution: 6.31m -> 6.99m

The Great British Bake Off: 6.37m -> 6.52m

Wow at Sherlock jumping another 1.52m! That's 4.77m more than its overnight. The New Year's Day episode from 2016 went 8.41m -> 11.64m -> 12.07m so it would seem this year's did better in the long run. I suspect the time-shifts for the final two 2017 episodes won't be quite as grand, but 7-day to 28-day time-shifts of 1.5m would put them at 11m and 10.5m.

Does watching on playback or on-demand count towards ratings?

I believe so. It's pretty much any way you watch on TV, including iPlayer.

20:00 Who Do You Think You Are? - 3.75m (18.3%)

21:00 DIY SOS - 3.74m (18.2%)

21:00 Celebrity Big Brother - [Exc. +1: 1.58m (7.7%)]

Recordings and any on-demand through a TV definitely counts. Watching on catch-up or live through other devices is calculated separately through a different set of figures. Hopefully one day BARB will combine them, since the latter is growing more important.

This is what I could find for previous series finales:

Previous Channel 5 CBB Winter Series Finales (exc./inc. +1):

2012: 3.04m/3.14m (13.3%/0.00%) [Peak: 3.77m (17.6%)]

2013: 3.09m/3.25m (13.9%/14.6%) [Peak: 3.83m (18.4%)]

2014: 3.00m/3.19m (0.00%/14.9%) [Peak: 3.77m (18.0%)]

2015: 2.50m/2.71m (11.4%/12.3%) [Peak: 3.16m (14.2%)]

2016: 2.52m/0.00m (13.2%/0.00%)

2017: 2.10m/2.19m (11.7%/12.2%)

This series averaged about 1.60m excluding +1 (with a couple of ratings missing) and I have 2.04m for the series that aired in January 2016.
