I take that article to mean they're referring to 'Forever Young', 'So Good' and 'Best Behaviour' because it says "she's also known for featuring on Clean Bandit's 'Tears'" straight afterwards.

Best Behaviour is such a flawless pop bop :cheer:
  • 2 weeks later...
Anyone fear there is a possibility she wont get to release an album with Syco. I do believe Syco are trying with her but, i am unsure if they will be happy with how things are going for her.
I've said before, but the winner's prize is a one album contract. They surely can't drop her without releasing an album because it would be breach of contract? That's why they never drop any of the winner's until an album has been released, no matter how floppy they are.
I'd be surprised if we didn't get the album. One flop isn't gonna put her career in tatters (see Zara with So Good, for example). Let's see how the next release does first, hopefully the album will be out after that.
I would think her future with Syco will heavily rest on the performance of her next single.
I'm pretty sure tons of artists throughout the mists of time have signed a contract to release an album that hasn't materialised.

True enough, but if that's what *specifically* stated in her contract then Sony would potentially have to pay her money for breaching contract.

I have no idea what her contract states though and they might have a get-out clause because they aren't stupid, aye :arrr:

Melanie Amoro never got to on the US version, although their contract could be different. Maybe flopping could also be a breach of contract and grounds for dropping if the company doesn't believe it owuld be a success, Syco could have a get out clause basically

They might've also paid Melanie to get out of the contract. It happens. Some contracts have penalties attached to them if you don't fulfill them, then again... a major corporation like Sony not having a get-out clause? I doubt it.

I swear, sometimes I feel like I'm the forum version of Debbie Downer aye :arrr:

The truth is the singles haven't performed as well as previous winners - or even runners up - for a number of reasons. Firstly Louisa exists in a fairly overcrowded market where female dance pop vocalists are concerned.

There's nothing on her records that haven't been heard before on a Rita Ora (yes I did just go there despite her being Louisa's mentor on the show), Jess Glynne, Anne Marie track, or any of the others from those "featuring" singles who got their start with DJ Fresh, Rudimental, Clean Bandit or whoever else.

Louisa is also in that bracket from being on a Clean Bandit single despite the fact she was on X Factor before that single instead of coming from complete obscurity. "Tears" was a hit purely on virtue of Clean Bandit's continued success these last three years rather than anything to do with her.

Even taking that out the equation though, she also came from a series of X Factor which let's not lie, wasn't as well received by the press or public, and from which she was the above average of a mediocre bunch of finalists. She was in the final with Reggie and Bollie for God's sake. Whilst I loved R'n'B as good Saturday night entertainment, they weren't meant to be serious players chart wise (as has since been proved) but the association with that is hard to shake off. Not to mention she was given a coronation song no one has heard of before or since Christmas two years ago. So no strong launchpad there.

The truth is she just hasn't cut it because in any of the more successful X Factor years - the 2008 to 2011 series - she would have been a mere footnote. And so it has thus far proved in practice. I'm sure she is a lovely girl really but a long term music prospect she is not. And to all saying "SYCO will at least get her album released", I have two words for you. Girl Thing.

That above post is bull.

Her singles have performed MUCH better than a lot of the previous winners of recent years.

Louisa has so much more appeal in terms of gigs and concerts too.

Let's face it some of the winners would never have been at the Capital Jingle bell ball / Summer time ball etc..

Best behaviour was a bit of a disaster but it was completely different to So Good and Tears.

I'm hopeful she'll still get an album, it would be a crime if she didn't because she could easily release another single June/July and then if successful release another alongside the album to promote on X-Factor.

This post is amazing and I agree with it so much!

Isn't she managed by Global or something? Which is why she gets spammed by Capital and why she's been at those balls.

I think some people are being a bit too dramatic here, she's had ONE flop single. Syco would be stupid to drop her any time soon when she's got Tears and So Good under her belt (I'm disregarding Forever Young because it's a very different scenario). In terms of relevancy, she's surely the most popular winner since James Arthur with the younger generation, ie. the demographic that contributes mostly to the singles chart. Let's not compare her to Girl Thing yet....
Whatever way you look at it, it's fairly obvious she is toast unless they try again with another high profile collaboration (for example the second Clean Bandit one they have up their sleeve), but even so will that be enough?
Is it really obvious though? She's got guaranteed Capital FM support right now plus I can see R1 getting on board again with the next single, all they need is a killer track that has wider appeal than Best Behaviour did. So Good was a decent sized hit so there's clear potential with her, not like the public don't care for her at all.
