They are good tracks, but I still think the album is amongst Mariah's worst. -_-

I like Emotions as well. I don't rate Can't Let Go though. I'm more keen on If It's Over and Till The End Of Time.

It's great that we have such a diverse opinion on the music of Mariah. That is why I like this type of thread.

I must re-listen to those tracks John. ^_^
Can't Let Go live is just amazing, shows how soulful she was!

Emotions (Sep 1991)

4 Stars

Review by Ashley S. Battel

A strong follow-up to Carey's self-titled debut album, Emotions puts to rest any concern of a "sophomore jinx." The same mix of dance/R&B/ballads that gave Carey's debut such tremendous auditory appeal can be found with equal strength on this release, indicating that placing firm belief in the notion of "Why fool with success?" may, in fact, have its merits. Most notably, the gospel influences of "If It's Over" (with music co-written by Carole King), the yearning cries for a lost love in "Can't Let Go," and the catchy, upbeat title track, all serve to send the listener on a musical journey filled with varying emotions. However, the one emotion that prevails upon completion of the album is definitely a positive one - satisfaction!

Thanks Rich.

It is a great preformance, I spotted the nice dress so I watched it

Shall I start this off then?

I think a lot of us were surprised at the rating of this album when you consider it is not highly rated amongst Mariah fans. Music is a very hit and miss business as a rule, similar to art. One person's pearl beyond price, is another's white elephant. This is clearly shown with Ashley S. Battel's review kindly supplied by Rich (thisispop), Global Mod.

I see that the reviewer has mentioned If It's Over, which I think was a potential single release in my review earlier.

Any further offerings on this? As I posted in the pinned thread, the pasting of this review here was to compare the expert's review with the fan's reviews.

I feel that for the album, barring a couple of tracks, it sounds like left overs from the MC album, tracks which sound like leftover filler never make a decent album in my opinion. -_-
