March 6, 20178 yr sure he has 16 on both the regular and the sales chart, even if hers doing worst on itunes than Spotify
March 6, 20178 yr By comparison, 25 had sold 537k in its first three days. Obviously this was without streaming as 25 hadn't been put on Spotify at the time.
March 6, 20178 yr So 198k in last 2 days for Ed and that is with streams? Kinda expected more I know that probably sounds crazy haha but after 232k first day and weekend being probably the biggest sales days for albums people shopping etc plus how big streams are for him. Dont get me wrong 430k in 3 days is INCREDIBLE no matter how you look at it. I'm guessing he will do about 700k now maybe a little more. I think Adele's record will be safe imagine she had hers for streaming  Edited March 6, 20178 yr by BrookeOlivia
March 6, 20178 yr I think it's ridiculous all the tracks from Eds album will chart this week. They haven't been released as singles; they are stand alone album tracks most of them. It just gives a disproportionate effect on the singles chart and clutters up the charts. I agree entirely : this the 5th time recently this has happened (Weeknd, XX, j Cole, Stormzy). What SHOULD happen in these cases is that whatever the bottom track sells (e.g. About 8000 I think in the Weeknd case) should be subtracted from ALL the singles sales and thus count as 8,000 extra albums sales. That way particularly strong album tracks would still be able to chart without making a mockery of the "singles" chart
March 6, 20178 yr Thing is, Ed Sheeran does have streams whereas Adele didn't. Amazing achievement for Ed though, never seen anything like this before. Incredible.
March 6, 20178 yr There is clearly something wrong in the UK with the way the charts are built. You don't find it in any other country, even in the US where streaming has been integrated for a long time. I don't know what's wrong with the UK and why the OCC is always so slow to re-adjust things, but it's looking like a joke.

That prevents the album tracks from occupying the whole TOP 10. But to be honest, I'm not a fan of including radio in the official charts.

But to be honest, I'm not a fan of including radio in the official charts. It would be a better outcome if it prevents a whole album occupying the whole top 20. It's ridiculous and I can't even understand how the OCC didn't think of it before.
March 6, 20178 yr The US did recently have the J. Cole album take up ten spots of the top 40 (link) and I imagine the Ed album will have a similar effect, so it's not like there's no problem with their chart.
March 6, 20178 yr yes, in the US it's much worst actually and been happening for more than 10 years, Taylor Swift has had like 75 US Top 100 hits but thats cos every time time she releases an album most of the tracks make the top 100 on itunes cherry picks alone
March 6, 20178 yr not sure why the occ didn't implement the Scandinavian model, pretty sure in Scandinavian countries they have this system that if you stream an album (or most if it) then it only counts for the album charts not the singles
