Having just seen it, I'd say Gaga is undoubtedly leading the pack when it comes to awards season. I was so impressed by her performance.

I expected it to be a bit stilted and drama-student in terms of quality, but wow. She's so natural. It made me feel like a lot of the scenes between her and Bradley were totally unscripted. Both of them are astonishingly good.

There's absolutely no way on earth this movie isn't getting multiple Oscar nominations.

I saw this now, I'd never heard of the original films prior and didn't look any plot information before so went in pretty much blind. The acting definitely carries this - Gaga was way to over the top for me during her stint in American Horror Story: Hotel, so I was very pleasantly surprised by her here, she was excellent as a character in both her natural ability and the fact that she clearly would relate and know a lot about the role she was playing quite a bit, and the songs were excellent, you can tell it's the type of music she was born to make and it works really well. Cooper was great too, I do agree with Joe actually that I found him a bit hard to sympathise with, but I do think he did play his part very well and believable that the outcome was still tragic.

Story-wise, I found it largely very predictable but I DEFINITELY didn't expect the abrupt ending, that really caught me off guard, but it did make me think about the film in a different way in that it's actually quite a dark portrayal of how difficult retaining your old life during superstardom even if you don't let the fame go to your head in a way that isn't obvious, which I liked. It could've been a bit shorter - some scenes didn't really advance the plot at all - but that was my only qualm and the performers definitely make it worthwhile. Well, except Sam Elliott, or maybe he would if I could actually understand him :drama:

I don't know if it will be a massive favourite, but it was a really good film nonetheless, and I certainly think a fair few Oscar nominations are on the cards here.

Saw it this morning. It's now gone 9 at night and I still can't stop thinking about it. Too emotional to give a coherent opinion right now but just wow.
Yeah, Sam was fantastic. The scene in the car where Bradley tells him it wasn't his dad he idolised, it was him, and Sam's reaction, absolutely broke me.
