Devin is so boring, there is literally nothing to him but the Challenge.

Honestly I was bored by most of the final couples, it’s so dull to see the same people regularly getting to the top. So I was rooting HARD for Olivia and Horacio, definitely my favourite new additions to the series, Horacio is just chefs kiss, Olivia was lots of fun and what happened to her was awful, I hope they’ll be back.

Of the remaining options, I’m glad Tori won it.

I can do without another season of Jordan. While he clearly does have some good in him, he can be so bloody patronising and it winds me up.

Other favourites for me were Amber, surprisingly, Mariah, Kim and Colleen and Jay and Michele. I wish we had got to see more of Sam.

Season 39 - MTV's long-running reality competition series is changing things up with The Challenge: Battle for a New Champion. Just like the title says, the new season features a cast of 24 players who have never won before. These "contenders" will battle it out for their first-ever championship title as their mental and physical limits will be pushed further than ever.

But just because the season's cast is made up entirely of non-winners, they'll still have to beat the best to be the best. Legendary Challenge champs CT Tamburello, Cara Maria Sorbello, Jordan Wiseley, Darrell Taylor, Laurel Stucky, Tori Deal, Brad Fiorenza, Devin Walker, Kaycee Clark, and Kaz Crossley will return in surprise elimination appearances throughout the season. However, unlike in season 32's Final Reckoning, the champions are only there to compete in eliminations against the contenders and will not get to earn their way into the game if they win

Meh. I would have preferred no MTV Challengers on the CBS airing now.

Outside of Melissa and Michele not many to root for tho.

isn't this just the Lip Sync Assassin twist from Drag Race?

:kink: that’s absolutely spot on.

It’s also giving me Cutthroat (Season 20) when CT and Tina came in. ICONIC. ELIMINATION.

That’s actually one of my favorite seasons, I need to do a rewatch.

I agree! That list is lacking in exciting names, whereas The Challenge: USA would've been absolutely fine without the vets on there.

I will give it a chance like always, but with Survivor, Big Brother and Amazing Race airing at the same time, this will be lower-priority than usual.

Season 39 really gave nothing to discuss, didn't it

One positive from the season was watching Nurys' star rise as much as it did. Impressive elimination wins! I didn't enjoy Jay and Michele running the house, on the other hand, both of their eliminations were delightful. :kink: I mostly liked Emanuel, he's an okay winner I guess although I was rooting for Nurys. The control/chaos/conquest format was a bust unfortunately.

Yeh I gave up on this season quite early on, wasn't really enjoying it and didn't care about many cast members.

Looking forward to this new Allstars though!

Era 2: Aviv Melmed, Brandon Nelson, Cara Maria Sorbello, Derek Chavez, Emily Schromm, Johnny “Bananas” Devenazio, KellyAnne Judd, Laurel Stuckey, Nehemiah Clark and Ryan Kehoe

Looks good to me! We've seen the old school vs. new school dynamic many times but not like this, that cast is stacked. Are there any glaring omissions? Several names come to mind, but on the other hand, no Jay *.*

Next question is how many episodes will it take to eliminate all these people  Unless it's the usual 19-20 which means we'd know the winner by Christmas.

I agree! I’m excited for this. I didn’t bother with Season 39 so I should probably binge this before Season 40 starts.

Spies, Lies and Allies started in August and wrapped up just before Christmas, so I expect this may be the same, but this season has 10 extra players.

I wanted them to be a bit messy and “unban” certain players like Ashley and Camila  outside of that I think we’re only missing maybe.. Kam? Amber B? Nelson as well, I just read last week that he lost his foot however. I’m seeing a lot of Turbo’s on Twitter but thank GOD he’s not on this season.

Da’Vonne is always a good choice. I would have replaced Kyland with her…. When was he ever on The Challenge lol (maybe the CBS challenge which I guess isn’t coming back?!)

Also some tea: apparently Devin and Michele are dating?!?

Ohhh I definitely miss Ashley!!! Kam, Amber and Nelson all came to mind for me too. And Kyland was on season 39! (I didn't notice him on the list for 40, yawn)

Edit: Wait, the biggest omission here is surely Wes!? Too bad he couldn't be talked out of retirement just for season 40.

This started, it’s off to an okay start.. but with a preseason special and no elimination that first episode I’ll look for them to eliminate the first eight in the next episode.

Why are Theo and Paulie at each others throats again? Dirty 30 was 10-seasons ago and your feud isn’t that deep. They’ve both gone thru some very challenging times… just drop it already. Especially Paulie.

So many challenge couples now too it’s hard keeping up. I probably should have watched Season 39.

I'm super excited about the cast but not too optimistic about the format. With a big season like this I hate to see a purge at the very beginning, at least they saved all of the first boots for episode 2 but still. And it's not going to feel much like era vs. era if the eliminations are going to be these internal battles within each era. That said, I think there's a lot more to be revealed about the format, so hoping it'll be better than what I'm expecting.

Here’s hoping we never see Tony again :magic:
  • 2 weeks later...

Not me actually rooting for Tony, only for him to leave abruptly on All-Stars 4 and self-sabotage on this season :')

Derrick on the other hand, my enthusiasm would've plummeted if he'd lost that elimination. Phew!!

I was surprised by both of those eliminations. But, now that I understand the format this season, I like it.

So I heard about this Cara/Laurel fight during filming through a leak. They edited out so much, like Laurel bringing up exes who were abusive to Cara in the past. The fight was so bad that the Producers that split them up were crying. Cara left the house to seek out help from a mental health expert. None of that made the show. Cara has a bit more of the story on her TikTok.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Laurel is a clown and they need to get her off my screen.

I was surprised by both eliminations too! Obviously Nehemiah eliminating CT is huge but so is Tina eliminating Emily :o How did she remove those nails with the hammer sideways!?!? Omg

I'm generally over the Cara/Laurel beef but am still going to read about the stuff that was omitted out of curiosity

This Era 1 erasure is painful to watch. :( But I'm just glad to be seeing these OGs on a regular season at all. Tina is a forever fave and I'll miss her confessionals dearly! Hoping Derrick and Rachel can somehow stick it out, unlikely as that seems.

Despite Era 1 being a total flop (they're so old!) I really do think they've fumbled on a GREAT format for the season. It really does shift relationships, dynamics and targets each week.

I thought maybe Era 1 would be in a good position with a stronger, competitive team if the Challenges themselves worked out beneficially, alas, they were not. They really did need numbers in that last Challenge to have any shot at safety.

Sad Derrick is gone, I hope he does come back soon. I think Rachel may have a good shot if future Challenges don't rely on having numbers.

Outside of that, good season. We haven't been seeing much of Tori or Jordan. That's a good thing.

Laurel actually being a team player for once. Josh and Kaycee called out for being snakes.

Cory fumbling each and every week, I wish he would have gone.
