February 7, 20187 yr I really don't think the 'Legends' perf was THAT bad. :/ Perfect? No. But only the sort of improvements which I assume would've been made in time for the show in 3 months! She was actually a lot better than I had envisioned her to be (I was fully expecting what I assume you guys are describing lmao) Oops. What is wrong with me. I thought her performance was very good. The song isn't particularly my thing, but it sounded suitably 2018.
February 7, 20187 yr I don't think it helps that "Legends" is unlikely to have appealed to older viewers. I think we should go back to internally selecting if I'm honest - if we aren't going to do something like Melodifestivalen, of course! I think it's the sort of song that some people would have loved while other would have hated it. Of course, as most people will only vote for one song, that doesn't have to be a bad thing.
February 7, 20187 yr Yaknow, now that the dust has settled, I can see that this is a good revamp away from a pretty good entry but they'd need to have Clean Bandit type production with the integration of the strings and synths. After they did a good job with Lucie's song last year I'd like to think that they've got that in them but the proof will be in the pudding (and even then we're running into the Joe and Jake "people like it but don't love it enough to motivate them to cast televotes for it" syndrome where you end up accidentally bottom 3) Also what I noticed from a rewatch, SuRie was the only one of the six acts tonight to look down the camera from the word go which probably helped her on the televote front.

That's an interesting point about looking down the camera. Obviously I couldn't see that. It is widely regarded as one of the reasons why Nick Clegg was seen to have "won" the first television debate on the 2010 election. A Clean Bandit production would be good - violins often seem to go down well :D
February 8, 20187 yr I've just watched Storm as it was seen on television. It didn't seem to get across just how much impact it made in the Dome. That suggests it needs some work before May.
February 8, 20187 yr We can’t just jump straight to a Melfest style show. It needs to be built to over time. I think Legends would have been better if they’d given her a headset microphone she was too much flailing hands. Unfortunately you can’t base your vote on what it *might* look like in May. The girl band were surprisingly better than I was led to believe. Did anyone else think the audience looked a bit dead for most of the performances?
February 8, 20187 yr George Michael called two different songs "Freedom". Not within just over a year of each other though. And the first was as Wham! J-Lo had two songs called "Ain't It Funny" with one of them being dubbed "The Murder Remix" despite being two completely unrelated separate tracks (and they were released within a year from each other). Doesn't feel all that strange to me that she has two songs of the same name seeing how the original one didn't exactly set the world alight lmao. IIRC some other pop artists have had singles sharing a name with album tracks in the past as well. It's on the tip of my tongue but I'm not finding it right now lol. February 8, 20187 yr Leona Lewis has two tracks called I Got You doesn't she? Her 2009 single and an album track from 2015.
February 8, 20187 yr Well I'm a bit gutted, we finally had chance to send something totally out there, high energy, fierce, current in Asanda and we go for the generic option of SuRie, the reaction in the dome was huge but scanning the audience it looked like majority middle aged men. I'm not totally convinced with SuRie's voice it doesnt seem to fit a dance anthem and like someone else said she doesn't seem to come across well, she seemed cold to me, like others have said Clare Maguire would of fitted it well. I know Asanda may of been a little off but it was a pure package, her and RAYA .I'm glad that they had dancers and routines and showed what can be done with staging. Felt for GoldStone at the end I dont think anyone was interested in their performance everyone seemed to be stood still or on phones.

So that WASN'T a remix of "Ain't It Funny" after all?!! I never could see the resemblance  Confused the hell out of me!
February 8, 20187 yr The song is "okay" but highly unlikely to be troubling the top 10 of any televote or jury in May. Maybe a great revamp and good staging could help lift it though.

The audience were told not to wave their flags while the acts were performing as they got in the way of the cameras.

You mean middle-aged men like me  Goldstone really got the short straw in having to come on after SuRie. As I said before, they must have known about half way through their song that they had no chance. It must have been really dispiriting for them. The other acts probably came to the same conclusion when the clips of the songs were shown. Unless the television audience thought very differently from the live audience, the result was a foregone conclusion. BTW, as a Brighton & Hove Albion fan, I was very disappointed that their was no mention of the old Goldstone Ground. Did they show Orinoco walking across the stage on the television? Mel and Mans didn't say anything

Technically it's regarded as the same song but they two tracks don't share a single note in common and even the lyrics are different so yeah it's two different songs for sure.
February 8, 20187 yr Goldstone really got the short straw in having to come on after SuRie. Let's be honest, a good song and performance would've trounced SuRie after SuRie
