Cowell admits he's bored of pop music

Saturday, October 14 2006, 12:45 BST - by Daniel Kilkelly

Simon Cowell has admitted that he is no longer interested in pop and prefers church music.

The X Factor judge is promoting his new group Angelis, who were put together after Cowell sent a group of experts to find the best choir singers in Britain. The six young choristers who impressed the judges have now been signed to the SonyBMG record label.

"Pop was my lifeblood - but I haven’t looked at the Top 40 for months," Cowell told The Times. "I discovered the power of these wonderful choral voices. I think this is the kind of music that people now want to hear. It captures a popular mood."

He added: "The choristers we auditioned were not stage school monsters. They had a background in public singing and good parents who supported them. They weren’t starstruck. They just wanted to sing well."

Is anyone surprised by this statement?

He'd been moving away from pop anyway with Il Divo.

To be honest, he has dreadful taste in modern pop so it's no bad thing if he's keeping away from it.

Couldn't agree more. What this man knows about current popular music I could write on the back of a postage stamp!

I wonder what outdated garbage this year's winner has lined up for them! :puke2:

how cynical can you get

- of course Simon, you are so interested in choral music now you are doing a program trying to cash in on that.. :puke:

as if SC has ever been interested in ""music - he is only interested if it makes him richer. the way he uses the same old dire covers proves that.

*CORRECTION*

"All these reality TV shows have exposed the sick way all my old pop groups and singers were manufactured so the public have turned my back on them and also teeny bop has had it's day and people have moved onto better music so I have to find another way of making money so I'll say this to try and look good" :)

Thank god he hasn't tried to manufacture a second wave brit pop band instead -_-

Well someone probably is thinking "Oh everyone likes Indie right now lets manufacture an indie band even though we're a MAJOR label and it'll take away what makes them so great but WE don't care as we'll make money out of it"

If they did try it it wouldn't work I don't think anyway ;)

He's right though, this is the sort of stuff that does well on the album chart...particularly around this time of year. Perfect for the Christmas market.

he may wants to release a xmas single and wants to promote it.

That's the problem -_- It's all about where he can make the most money rather than having a passion for music.

Thats rich, hes f*cking responsable for half the $h!te thats been in the top 40 recently, with all these people who come from his shows.

Grrrrrrr, he gets on my t*ts so much. And like said he cares more about money.
