Coldplay have placed a cover of The Pretenders' festive track '2000 Miles' on their website.

The band claimed that they wanted to produce their own Christmas track but couldn't manage one, so decided to cover the 1983 single instead.

Writing on their website, Chris Martin said: "We love Christmas songs, but every time we try and write one it’s awful. So we cover them. Well once or twice actually.

"In fact the one song I would most liked to have written is ‘Fairytale of New York’ by de bloody Pogues of Ireland."

It was reported yesterday that Coldplay's fourth album is nearly finished and that they are planning a 2008 world tour.

Coldplay considering leaving EMI?

Monday, January 7 2008, 12:32 GMT

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/a83418/c...eaving-emi.html

Coldplay may become the next artists to part ways with EMI, say reports.

Chris Martin's band are not ready to sign a new contract with the label because of uncertainty over the state of the music industry and may leave EMI in 2009, claims the Daily Star.

The group are rumoured to be planning a Best Of collection to follow their new studio album, which would release them from their five-album contract with the company.

A source commented: "There’s so much uncertainty in the record industry right now. The boys don’t necessarily need a label anymore.

"They aren’t even considering putting pen to paper on any type of new contract until they see what happens."

Coldplay's fourth LP, which will allegedly be called Prospekt, is due out in the summer.

Paul McCartney and Radiohead's Thom Yorke have both criticised EMI recently following their departures from the label.

Coldplay are close to completing work on their fourth studio album, reports Billboard.

The record, rumoured to be titled Prospekt, is due for an early summer release with a North American and European tour to follow.

The band's manager Dave Holmes said: "We're just about finished. They're in the final mixing. They'll start mastering, and away we go.

"I think it's their best album. They've really delivered. It's a fantastic record. They've really put the work in."

Holmes also revealed that the group are working on something "special" for their forthcoming arena tour.

"If we can pull this off it's going to be quite different. We're going to try something a little different in the arena space.

"The guys are really eager to get back on the road. They're really looking forward to touring and getting back out there."

The album will be Coldplay's first since 2005's X & Y and is produced by Brian Eno, Markus Dravs and the band.

It would be great if somethnig special is big tour which includes Croatia.

Chris Martin has claimed that Coldplay have "started to use more colours" on their new album.

The singer said that the band's fourth LP may turn off some fans, but claimed the group have realised they can't always please "everyone".

Martin told Rolling Stone: "Whether or not it's good, we certainly started to use more colours. It's impossible to please everybody, and it took us a while to learn that.

"It's just the freedom to say, 'Everyone might not like this. We're into it at the moment, so let's just get it done'."

Guitarist Jonny Buckland said: "We felt like the first three albums were a trilogy, and we finished that. So we wanted to do something different."

Talking about Brian Eno's involvement as producer, Buckland added: "It wasn't so much that he brings like a sound or something to it. He brings lots of ideas about everything, even down to like how we structured our day."

It was reported earlier this week that the band are putting the finishing touches to their fourth studio album, which is expected to be called Prospekt.

Featuring tracks called 'Cemeteries of London', 'Reign Of Love', 'Life In Technicolor' and 'Death and All His Friends', it is due to be released in May.

Chris and co reveal their generous side…

Coldplay have bought a £3,000 piano for a school that lost all its musical instruments in last summer's floods.

The band decided to help after being shown a photo of the school’s old piano floating across the school hall.

The school’s head teacher said, "It is fantastic they noticed us and I was impressed they cared enough to want to help.”

The international superstars are currently riding high in the charts with single ‘Violet Hill’ which has been available for free download.

Their highly anticipated new album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends is out June 12
