October 25, 200618 yr Well it was vile, but I find the X Factor a lot more enjoyable when there's a Mariah song for me to criticise. ^_^
October 25, 200618 yr Me too, or where I like it... Brenda last year and Cassie the year before both did Without You amazingly
October 25, 200618 yr Author As Mariah's name is never far away when Leona appears on TV here is her Wikipedia profile: Leona Lewis Leona Lewis grew up in North London listening to her father's record collection. She says "I loved listening to Minnie Ripperton and Anita Baker, plus 80s big vocalists Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Oleta Adams and more recently Eva Cassidy, and at the age of six I decided to be a singer". Her favourite album is Thriller. Leona wrote her first song at the age of 12, and attended the Sylvia Young stage school and the Brit Academy. Her X Factor audition performances were "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" (Judy Garland), "I Have Nothing" (Whitney Houston), "Hero" (Mariah Carey), "Without You" (Mariah Carey) and "I'll Be There" (Jackson 5).
October 25, 200618 yr Author PS Worth noting that her 'I'll Be There' was essentially a Mariah cover as she copied all the ad-libs. Can't remember her doing it during BootCamp or the auditions. Maybe that was during the 'trio task' Simon set, in which case it might have had the original arrangement. Edited October 25, 200618 yr by Tim
October 26, 200618 yr Author FYI - Mariah is not an 80's vocalist. Nor is Eva Cassidy. Silly Wikipedia.
October 26, 200618 yr It took Mariah like 3 years to make her debut album didn't it? I think she got a deal when she was 16 in 1987...
October 26, 200618 yr Author Next week is Big Band week with Tony Bennett. Perhaps someone will sing 'Subtle Invitation'
October 27, 200618 yr Me too, it's the only reason I watch it is because they might sing Mariah songs :P
October 28, 200618 yr Author No mention of Mariah this week. Odd - you'd think there'd be at least one comparison as Louis is constantly saying people are 'a young someone'.
October 28, 200618 yr Author 'Without You' was played on the XTra factor to accompany Dionne's best bits. Her version of 'Without You' was also played.
October 28, 200618 yr Author I thought Dionne did a fabulous job of Without You! Yes but the people don't like great singers with big gaps between their teeth. That's what we've learned tonight
November 4, 200618 yr Author Live Rounds - Week 4 Louis: 'You sounded like Mariah Carey singing an Abba song' Leona: 'Mariah Carey is a brilliant artist....Mariah and Christina, I think they're wonderful artists' Simon: 'I love how Louis can say "you sound like Mariah Carey" as a negative'
November 4, 200618 yr She obviously sees herself as a young Mariah/Christina and Louis said she shouldn't aspire to be like them because they oversing. Yes Louis that maybe your opinion but look who shifts units!
November 4, 200618 yr Author I've watched Leona's 'Summertime' on YouTube an unhealthy number of times this week. Terrific singer. Louis has a point about her oversinging - the same can be said about Christina's shouting instead of belting, Mariah's voice can jump around too much (see much of 'Charmbracelet') - but Louis worded his criticism so badly 'You sounded like Mariah Carey' is not an insult. November 5, 200618 yr Leana has an amazing voice, a incredible voice with a brilliant vocal range  She sounds like alot like mariah and christina I say, but that dosn't matter, she's still amazing
