Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee's 'Despacito' Dominates Hot 100 for Fifth Week

by Gary Trust

Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito," featuring Justin Bieber, rules the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated June 24) for a fifth week.

"Despacito" (released on Universal Music Latino / Raymond Braun / SchoolBoy / Def Jam / UMLE / Republic Records) leads the Digital Song Sales chart for a sixth week, with 141,000 downloads sold (down 5 percent) in the week ending June 8; the remix with Bieber accounts for 80 percent of the song's sales for a second consecutive week. The track tops the Streaming Songs chart for a fifth week, with 68.3 million U.S. streams (down 2 percent) in the week ending June 8, according to Nielsen Music. On Radio Songs, "Despacito" keeps at No. 7 with 112 million in all-format airplay audience (up 11 percent) in the week ending June 11, adding the Hot 100's top Airplay Gainer award for a fourth consecutive week.

"Despacito" concurrently leads the Hot Latin Songs chart for a 19th week and the Songs of the Summer chart for a second week (since the latter list's return a week ago).

Bruno Mars' "That's What I Like" ranks at No. 2 on the Hot 100 for a sixth week, after topping the May 13-dated chart. It also leads Radio Songs for a sixth week, with 165 million in audience (essentially even week-over-week), and tops Hot R&B Songs for a 17th week, and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a 10th frame.

DJ Khaled's "I'm the One," featuring Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne, tallies a fourth week at No. 3 after debuting atop the May 20-dated Hot 100. "One" adds a sixth week at No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs chart.

As for Bieber, he's ranked in the Hot 100's top three with two titles, "Despacito" and "I'm the One," for the past five weeks, and has now logged 13 total weeks with two concurrent songs in the top three; he notched eight weeks with two songs ("Love Yourself" and "Sorry") in the top three simultaneously in January and February 2016. Bieber passes The Beatles for the most such weeks, as the Fab Four accumulated 12 weeks with at least two songs in the top five at the same time (in 1964 and 1969; in five of those frames in 1964, The Beatles monopolized the entire top three, a feat that no other artist has accomplished).

Meanwhile, Bieber could make a lofty launch on next week's Hot 100 (dated July 1) thanks to another feature, on David Guetta's "2U," released Friday (June 9).

Ed Sheeran's former 12-week Hot 100 No. 1 "Shape of You" rebounds 5-4, and extends its record for the most weeks spent in the top five from a song's debut, having now collected its first 22 weeks on the Hot 100 in the top five, dating to its arrival at No. 1 (Jan. 28). (Follow-up radio single "Castle on the Hill," which debuted at its No. 6 high on the Hot 100 concurrent with the No. 1 bow of "Shape," climbs 28-23, marking its highest rank since its debut week.)

Rounding out the Hot 100's top five, Kendrick Lamar's "Humble.," which topped the May 6-dated Hot 100, descends 4-5.

Future's No. 5-peaking "Mask Off" holds at No. 6 on the Hot 100, and Lil Uzi Vert's "XO TOUR Llif3" hits a new high, climbing 9-7. "Life" also lifts to a new peak on Streaming Songs (4-2; 41 million, up 1 percent).

The Chainsmokers and Coldplay's No. 3-peaking "Something Just Like This" remains at No. 8 on the Hot 100, as The Chainsmokers spend a 58th consecutive week in the Hot 100's top 10, a streak second only to Katy Perry's record 69-week run in 2010-11. The track also rebounds 2-1 for an 11th week atop the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart.

Zedd and Alessia Cara's "Stay" dips to No. 9 from its No. 7 Hot 100 peak, while Post Malone's first Hot 100 top 10, "Congratulations," featuring Quavo, keeps at its No. 10 high (first reached a week ago).

Just beyond the Hot 100's top 10, James Arthur's "Say You Won't Let Go" reverses course from No. 12 back to its No. 11 high (in its 33rd week on the chart); Imagine Dragons' "Believer" hits a new Hot 100 peak (15-13), while leading the Hot Rock Songs chart for a 14th week; and Shawn Mendes' "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back" hits the Hot 100's top 20 (22-18).

The Hot 100's top debut belongs to Fifth Harmony, whose "Down," featuring Gucci Mane (5H's first single following the December departure of Camila Cabello), debuts at No. 42, driven by its No. 12 start on Digital Song Sales (36,000) and 9.2 million first-week U.S. streams. DJ Khaled makes the second-highest entrance, as "To the Max," featuring Drake, arrives at No. 53 (19,000 sold; 8.4 million streams). That track and "I'm the One" are from Khaled's album Grateful, due June 23.
