3RD | | | IDLE WORSHIP | | | 8.821

This song is Hayley confronting the fact that she's not not the person fans and people around her thinks she is. She's disregarding the idea that she this "idol" for people to look up to and is emphasising the fact that she's only human, she has flaws and struggles with things like the rest of us. It's really just looking at celebrity 'worship' culture as a whole and deeming it as wasted because none of us are a super human. Hayley doesn't want to let people down by letting them continue to see her as a hero etc. Some of you may have seen me mention this in the album thread but this track was originally meant to be rocky and have a more angsty feel to it but obviously that didn't fit with the rest of the album so they changed it up but kept the kinda raw vocals to add a really interesting contrast. Taylor also used a sample of wind howling through an old building and then played it on a keyboard for this song too :o I'm so glad they did experiment with this more and didn't just bin it when they realised it didn't fit as it's a definite highlight on After Laughter

2ND | | | FAKE HAPPY | | | 9.714

omg so close but not quite there, Fake Happy just misses out on the top spot and finishes second. It is such a MOMENT. Lyrically, it's exactly what it says on the tin, I think all of us have felt as though we've had to put on a smiley facade to cover how we actually feel at times, "we're all so fake happy" and I love that Hayley apologetically confronts this part of society that we all unknowingly subscribe to. Y'know, the whole concept of always responding to being asked how we are with "I'm good" because nobody really wants to tell others what they're actually thinking if they're anything else. The lyrics to this really are just incredible. The build up to that middle eight slays as well, it's just a perfect track and would have been a more than worthy winner. "I should have known that when things were going good that's when I'd get knocked down" is the part I identify most with and it's just refreshing to hear someone really talk about feeling that way and the whole idea of being 'fake happy' for exactly what it is.

which means....

:winner: 1ST | | | HARD TIMES | | | 9.939 :winner:

This really was the perfect first track. I feel like it captures the entire essence of After Laugher really well. It's got that poppy, upbeat, dancey rhythm paired with dark and relatable lyrics. It's so infectious, it's one of the best songs of the year tbh, nobody can even argue that with the average it's gotten here!! The video is perfection, ughh just everything. It's brilliant, it's one of the best songs Paramore have ever released imo.

Thanks to all of you rated and the handful of you who kept up with these quick fire results!

Now go over to the lounge and see what we're up to there ;)

Fake Happy ROBBED, it's really becoming a Paramore fave of mine tbh. So on point lyrically (ik most of this album is) and it bridges the gap perfectly between their older stuff and the new sound I feel moreso than anything else on the album. Hard Times is a banger as well though ofc *.*
I'm surprised how high FH was, not to mention #2! :o was sure Idle Worship would get that spot.
Fake Happy, Rose Coloured Boy and Hard Times are my top 3 of this album so that is mostly a very good result! Idle Worship could be a Proof in time, that took forever to hit me.
Admit it! We knew Hard Times would be number one.
Yup! Only noticed a couple of people give it anything other than 10 or 11. It's great that it wasn't leagues ahead of #2 though.

Yea I wasn't surprised considering I was aware of a lot of people who generally don't like Paramore but loved Hard Times :')
