Madonna has issued an open letter to the press regarding her adoption of David from Malawi.

"My husband and I began the adoption process many months prior to our trip to Malawi. I did not wish to disclose my intentions to the world prior to the adoption happening as this is a private family matter. After learning that there were over one million orphans in Malawi, it was my wish to open up our home and help one child escape an extreme life of hardship, poverty and in many cases death, as well as expand our family.

Nevertheless, we have gone about the adoption procedure according to the law like anyone else who adopts a child. Reports to the contrary are totally inaccurate. The procedure includes an 18 month evaluation period after which time we hope to make this adoption permanent. This was not a decision or commitment that my family or I take lightly.

I am overwhelmed and inspired by my trip to Malawi and hope that it helps bring attention to how much more the world needs to do to help the children of Africa.

My heartfelt thanks for all the good wishes I have received and I hope the press will allow my family some room for us to experience the joy we feel to have David home!"

Good to hear! The press do really need to back off and let them be!

Good luck them all! :)

Yeah, I don't want them to be chased by press! They should let them live their lives!

LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Madonna's adopted baby has been spotted wearing a Kabbalah bracelet.

The one-year-old Malawi boy named David was wearing the distinctive red string around his wrist when he flew into New York from London's Heathrow airport with the 48-year-old singer last night (29.10.06).

Madonna - who was accompanied by her other children, Lourdes, nine, and six-year-old Rocco - was also sporting the red band which is associated with the mystical religious offshoot of Judaism.

Followers of the Kabbalah believe the band deflects "envious stars and looks of ill will".

Madonna is in the US to defend her adoption of David in a series of television appearances and to promote her new children's book 'English Roses: To Good To Be True'.

The pop star has already given an exclusive interview with US chat show host Oprah Winfrey, which was conducted via satellite link from her home in London.

She is set to appear on NBC's 'Today Show' today (30.10.06) and tomorrow (31.10.06) will film a segment for 'Live with Regis and Kelly'.

Madonna is also expected to go on the evening entertainment programme 'Dateline'.

Her publicist Barbara Charone said: "She will be in New York for a couple of days promoting her book and for an NBC special on her world tour this year."

Good News, the paparazzi should just leave them alone, she is helping the child for crying out loud
