Would love Disco Tits to be added to Hot Hits UK

I second this, I think the quirkiness amd explicit nature of the song could actually help it take off, it’s such a tune so I hope it can

Obviously all this playlist exposure is helping but it's not true that any song by a huge act with a Spotify push has a similar performance. "Roar" and "24k Magic" had huge push and never came close to #1. Also the song is actually increasing its daily plays and stabilizing which is the opposite of what happened to Taylor Swift so it seems like the GP truly likes it for whatever reason.

I disagree i still think its doing so well cos since day one it was song 1 on every immaginable playlist including hothits not only the song but a video too so double exposure from day 1, sinilar to taylor but even smarter strategy

Bruno or roar got support but not like that, not on release day

I don't see any reason why a new single from an artist whose previous album went SEVEN TIMES PLATINUM and sung a Bond theme wouldn't be first song on playlists introducing new music but each of our own I guess.

I mean people can dislike Sam Smith how much they won't that doesn't stop him being popular, just like it doesn't stop Taylor or Ed.

Sorry, I did not meant "Roar" but "Chained to the Rhythm". And yes they did, they both got a banner (which Sam Smith did not get) and were in all main playlist. Look, it's obvious Sam got a boost from playlist exposure and having a video but if that was the defining factor he would have lost steam after the first day, which was what happened to Taylor Swift (who also got a banner + similar level of support). It was clear from day 2 she would be free-falling while Sam quickly stabilized. Obviously it is still too early to predict how it'll do long term but some of you will simply have to come to terms the GP likes the song and it'd probably be doing well even without such extensive Spotify support. It is also over-performing even on US Apple Music (despite its userbase being generally uninterested in pop music).

Chained to the rhythm was not added as song #1 on every immaginable playlist like Taylor did or now Sam... was added on day 1 at hotlist but not as song 1...

but good fr the labels, they have figured out how not be damaged by lack of streams like Pink did...

Pink failed to geab the #1 overall cos lack of streams... why? she was not on any playlist, even hothits didn't add her until 1 week or 2 after release and then it was at the bottom of the list... I'm pretty sure that if added as song #1 from the get going in all immagiable playlists then it would have secured the #1

There are so many "what if"s you could use for the charts though. P!nk could have secured herself some TV promo to secure the #1 but she didn't. She could've reduced to 59p in week 1 but she didn't. And so on, the charts have always worked similarly, even more so in fact when songs were held back for 2 months to artificially get a high peak.
Which makes me think that that now again would be interesting if labels experiment a strategy where they give a song to a radio station for exclusive and then wait a couple of days until they put it on streaming services.

They would lose money considering the song would still be available on streaming, albeit illegally. I'd assume $$$ is more important to labels than chart peaks.

Katy Perry was in literally every huge playlist and had a huge banner and her own playlist promoted on the front page. Let's not pretend she got inferior promo than Sam Smith. Still flopped (comparatively).

Katy got the same (possibly not quite as big as Sam, Ed and Taylor) but still huge support in the first day. I think the biggest issue with her release, was that out of all of these artists, she released a brand new solo song 5 months before, whereas it'd been years since any of those other artists released.
I feel Spotify makes the charts work in a mechanical sense that often removes emotional investment. It's kind of bizarre that for instance, Logic's song is blowing up through a viral award show performance because stuff like that usually stalls as soon as people stop talking about it a day later. On the other hand you have XXXTENTACION incidentally cracking the UK Spotify top 50 and naturally getting a huge boost because of it, happening in the days following the very public reveal of the details of him beating his pregnant girlfriend. The timing of it makes it look on face value like the UK are very actively endorsing his actions.

I'd arguably say Taylor released a single (technically) within a shorter time frame that was way more well known than 'Rise'.

Katy seemed to get swallowed up with CTTR, as in it couldn't make its way past the bigger songs at that time.

REALLY surprised at this continued success for French Montana! The longevity *.*

More surprising that it's still top five when the likes of Feels, Wild Thoughts and Despacito are fading away really.

If everyone worked like that then Chris Brown wouldn't still be getting hits. I think his past actions are awful, but that doesn't take away from the fact it's a song that's very unique and moving - it's a brilliant track about his best friend that committed suicide - the public don't judge songs by the person behind it, they judge songs by the quality of them.

It's true, but I do think there was definitely a brief period where Chris Brown was relatively taboo, and even so he's never quite recaptured the chart dominance he was having towards the end of the 2000s (although he did score his only UK #1 after the fact, that seems more just by chance). An argument could be made that if it had happened today, whether or not he'd have had unphased success would be related to whether or not he was blacklisted on Spotify. I mean, if they decided to just up and remove XXXTENTACION from Rap Caviar, Today's Top Hits, Hot Hits UK, everything they have a direct influence on, his numbers would plummet. Since there aren't even enough people aware of the fact, or with the willpower to circumvent his promotion, it takes the public input away from it, even if the chart is on the surface, completely decided by the actions of that public.

I remember Chris Brown had a great period of success for about 18 months after 'Loyal' dropped... with New Flame, Ayo, Five More Hours, All Eyes on You and Do It Again.
