Rod Rocks Back With Fifth Straight No. 1 Album

October 18, 2006, 11:00 AM ET

by Katie Hasty, N.Y.

Rod Stewart earns his fourth No. 1 album on The Billboard 200 this week with "Still the Same ... Great American Rock Classics of Our Time." The J Records effort sold 184,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and follows his hugely successful four-volume "Great American Songbook" series, each of which topped the chart.

After becoming the 700th No. 1 album on The Billboard 200 last week, Evanescence's Wind-Up effort "The Open Door" slides to No. 2 with 164,000 copies, a 63% sales decline.

G-Unit artist Lloyd Banks' "Rotten Apples" bows at No. 3 with 143,000. His sophomore set also manages a No. 1 entry on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums charts. Banks' debut, "The Hunger for More," debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums in 2004.

Jimmy Buffett takes his country-tinged RCA set "Take the Weather With You" to No. 4 on the big chart and No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart with 121,000. 2004's "License To Chill" debuted at No. 1 in 2004 with 239,000.

Tony Bennett's "Duets: An American Classic" (RPM/Columbia) falls 4-5 with 105,000, a sales slip of 18%. The Killers' Island set "Sam's Town" takes a 68% sales hit, slipping 2-6 with 102,000.

Justin Timberlake's prior chart-topper "FutureSex/LoveSounds" descends 5-7 with 92,000 (-21%). Falling 3-8, George Strait's "It Just Comes Natural" (MCA Nashville) moves 88,000 with a 62% decline. Hinder's "Extreme Behavior" (Universal Republic) moves 10-9 with 76,000, a negligible change in sales over last week. Ludacris' "Release Therapy" closes out the top tier, sliding 6-10 with 74,000 (-34%).

Country act Heartland's Lofton Creek debut album "I Love Her First" bows at No. 11 on the chart with 49,000 and also caps the Top Independent Albums tally. Senses Fail's "Still Searching" (Vagrant) debuts at No. 15, moving 49,000, besting the No. 34 peak of 2004's "Let It Enfold You." Other big debuts this week include Trivium's "The Crusade" (Roadrunner) at No. 25 with 31,000, Sting's lute-iful "Songs From the Labyrinth" (Deutche Grammophon) at No. 37 with 24,000 and Sammie's self-titled Rowdy effort at No. 42 with 20,000.

Overall CD sales are down 3.5% from last week's count and down 2.3% compared to the same week a year ago at 10.09 million units. Sales for 2006 are down 5% compared to 2005 at 413.7 million units.

and follows his hugely successful four-volume "Great American Songbook" series, each of which topped the chart

They didn't all reach #1 - only the third one did IIRC.

Quite low sales at the top this week then :o

hope Vanessa Hudgens album hasn't dropped to much :D

I don't have the whole chart yet... there's a lot of gaps in the one I have, I will post it when I have the entire chart
