Eminem setting out to try and prove me wrong in this forum yet again isn't he  (seriously though I don't think that lead is anywhere near large enough to close the gap still, it's less than a 1,000-per-day streaming sales lead from Spotify which must be pretty much cancelled out by the difference the opposite way on iTunes).

If it keeps up after xmas he will most certainly be the first new no1 of 2018!

Slade and Wizzard are missing from the most important Xmas playlist in the UK, Christmas Is Coming, that's why

theyre doing worst, it's not like they're less popular with people... Elton John is top 10 in all key Xmas playlists

static chart again

1 River 605K

2 Perfect combined 492K

3 Mariah 385K

I feel like both Wizzard and Slade songs are starting to become less popular.

Slade's popularity has certainly declined from the ubiquity it still had in the late 90s/early 00s.

Wizzard still seems very popular to me, I always hear it everywhere and it's quoted by people all over the place. If it was at the top of Christmas Is Coming it would be 10 places higher officially.

Similarly, if Brenda Lee wasn't high on that playlist it would be about 15-20 places lower officially I reckon...

They really need to do something about the playlist effect, maybe the OCC should compile a playlist chart so people just mindlessly putting on a Spotify curated playlist don't have those streams count to the singles chart.

Idg why everyone always complains about playlists

If people don't like the song they'll just skip it no?

You'd be surprised. Especially as that's unlikely within the first 30 seconds.

I know I've accidentally 'streamed' songs I've hated this way before.

I wasn't aware of the 30 second rule, seems a bit messy then indeed
Slade are not helped by the fact that there's only one version of Merry Christmas Everybody on Spotify, only ono ne compilation album. Chris Rea had the same problem until this year when his back catalogue was made available

Hopefully the Christmas playlists will change around each year so we don't always have the same songs at the top doing miles better than those at the bottom. Some songs are always going to be popular in December (Mariah, Wham, The Pogues) so if they were further down on playlists wouldn't that give 'smaller' Christmas classics their own time to shine? I'm not sure how much of an effect that would really have though :P

Also how long do you have to listen to a song in iTunes/Apple Music for it to count as a play/stream?

Yeh Slades Popularity seemed to peak with the re-release remix in 1998 and then Noddy got all the top xmas countdown jobs for MTV!

LMix, Dua's IDGAF and Craig/Bastille pretty high too
