How dare any of us tell others what they can and can't wear

What business is it of ours if a woman wants to wear veil, a hijab or walk the streets stark naked ?? what business is it of ours to play fashion police ? None of our business, if people want to wear veils aside from a classroom or an airport then thats their perogative and their own private business it is not up to us to tell anyone what they can or cant wear be it hippies, muslims, chavs, goths, trappist monks etc its about personal choice

100% correct my friend...

Kimi - you miss my point totally.

A veil isn't just an item of clothing, a fashion statement, a trend.

A veil is a STATEMENT. It's a statement of 100% separation and total exclusion from the world around these women. And it's also a statement that all men are potential molestors.

I raise your awareness to the passages in the Koran that refer directly to this issue:

Sourat chapter 24 verse 31; it says that, " And tell the believing women to lower their gaze(from looking at forbidden things),and protect their private parts(from illegal sexual acts)and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent(like both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hand or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, head cover, apron, etc)and to draw their veils all over juyubihinna (i e, their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husbands' fathers, or their sons, or their husbands' sons, or their brothers ,or their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons, or their(Muslim)women(i e, their sisters-in-Islam),or the(female)slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigor, or small children who have no sense of feminine sex.

And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allah to forgive you all. O believers, that you may be successful.

Also the second Justification: Sourat (chapter) 33(Al-Ahzab) verse 59;

Said, " O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i e, screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way) That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

You think THIS is not insulting not only to the women who wear the vile things ("Cover yourselves up - you can't be trusted") - but to ALL men who are being suspected of 'gazing at' these women's bosoms and asses ("Cover yourselves up - you're tempting these would-be rapists")? Oh please.... veils are an insult, a comical Munsters drag that should be banned from every right-thinking public place in the world. How DARE they wear them, once again.

Oh, come on Rob, you're smart enough to be aware of the fact that a Crucifix represents a hell of a lot more than it being 'just jewelry'... It's not like a medallion or a gold chain or summat, it represents a religious viewpoint as much as a veil or a sikh turban does.. Therefore it has no place in a school. Like I say, I dont wanna know if the teacher is a Christian or not, any more than I want to know if they are a Jehovas Witness or a member of a Political Party, if they want to go to church or mosque or Party Political meetings, then that's up to them, but they do it in their own time and they keep it to themselves while they teach our kids.... Simple as...

As a self-proclaimed Atheist, I'm surprised by you...

simple m8, it means nothing to me at all...

We´re going from one extreme to another, in the past people were forced to belong to a particular religion, right now religion is totally uncool and if you have one you have to be ashamed of it and you cannot express it. I´m wondering if there will be a day when people will be forced to reunite in secret for religious services, like it was in the begining of christianity in the Roman Empire... I don´t even think a cross is really a religious simbol. At least where I live it´s like a fashion jewelry, and I have seen people who wear it and are not really religious. A real religious simbol is when someone wears a t-shirt with "jesus christ" written in giant letters. I´ve seen this very often. Not so often I saw people wearing t-shirt with atheist phrases. I admire both these people for voicing their convictions, whatever it is.
