Posted December 16, 20177 yr As the title says... who has been the biggest urban artist this year? Whereas last year it was undeniably Drake, it's been a lot closer this year. I'd say Post Malone. From the UK, probably Stormzy with J Hus a close second. Agree? Would like to hear reasoning too.
December 16, 20177 yr Most definitely Post Malone worldwide, Stormzy in the UK, think you're spot on.
December 16, 20177 yr Kendrick might be thereabouts? HUMBLE. and the album have been big commercial successes in addition to the usual critical acclaim!
December 17, 20177 yr Critically: Kendrick or Stormzy Commercially: Post Malone or Drake The likes of Quavo, French Montana, Cardi B, SZA, J Hus, DJ Khaled, Future, Khalid, and Logic have all been big and prominent too. Some more deserving than others
December 17, 20177 yr Critically: Kendrick or Stormzy Commercially: Post Malone or Drake The likes of Quavo, French Montana, Cardi B, SZA, J Hus, DJ Khaled, Future, Khalid, and Logic have all been big and prominent too. Some more deserving than others I'd agree with this aside from Drake being as big as Post Malone. He was certainly less successful this year than 2016!
December 18, 20177 yr Internationally, I'd say Post Malone definetly, UK I'd say J Hus too. French Montana, Cardi B, Stefflon Don, Yungen, DJ Khaled, Migos and SZA have all been prominent too. Next year I would like to see more melody to R&B/Hip Hop , everything has felt SO similar and basic in production and melody.
December 18, 20177 yr I think Cardi B will be a one hit wonder Steffon Don will do ok French Montana and Migos will be over
December 18, 20177 yr Author I think some of the names mentioned have only had one song, however huge that song was, that captured the public's attention. I'm looking at Yungen and Logic, whereas French Montana and Cardi B have had huge hits AND crossed over. One look at social media shows how popular Cardi B is right now and her features too. In the UK I think there is a strong argument for J Hus as biggest artist - in my experience his music has been unavoidable this year. Did You See is also one of the biggest songs of the year, no matter which way you look at it. However, Stormzy has really become a household name this year so can't really argue against him. I mean, how many UK rappers could release something like 'Big For Your Boots' which got love on the streets and the charts and appear on the X Factor! Critically, a lot of good names mentioned here - Kendrick, SZA and Khalid especially. I think Kendrick challenges Post Malone for biggest artist of the year actually, every year he just seems to get bigger. Also, Kendrick is a household name now and I'm not sure Post Malone is quite there yet (although next year he probably will be).
December 22, 20177 yr I think Cardi B will be a one hit wonder Steffon Don will do ok French Montana and Migos will be over Never mind, after hearing Cardi’s new song she’s definitely here to stay
