Not looking promising at all for Meghan when Tory Lanez album tracks can chart Top 200 over her lead comeback single. The public really aren't here for her.
Wow at Blossoms though! Love how their comeback is doing so much better than Meghan Trainors

27/50 R&B/Urban :')

I love R&B / Urban but I find most of this so faceless / tuneless - B Young, Post Malone, Drake etc.

Makes sense that half of the chart is urban it's what's cool with the kids. I'm liking it more than the pop that is coming out in general at the moment too so I can't complain. Just a shame that dance music is seemingly out besides the dancepop and the odd crossover (Jax, MK, CamelPhat)

I'd be more here for a R&B / Urban takeover if it had more of a melody like 00's R&B - Ciara, Mario, Chris Brown, Ashanti, Timbaland etc. It's nothing like that, it's all a bit dull and nothing-y.

Out of those I only really like All The Stars, Fine Line, My Lover, Finesse, Tip Toe, Love Lies & I Know You.

I like these - arguably the more commercial R&B hits.. Some of these have pop influences...

05 Kendrick Lamar & SZA - All The Stars

14 Mabel - Fine Line

16 Post Malone - Rockstar

19 Bruno Mars - Finesse

32 G-Eazy - Him & I

34 Craig David - I Know You

38 NF - Let You Down

46 Kojo Funds - Check

48 Jorja Smith - Let Me Down

50 Stormzy - Blinded By Your Grace, pt. 2

Yeah some of those aren't really urban (the Craig David song for example) but there is undeniably an urban domination going out right now. About time too - these kind of songs were always popular but people illegally downloaded them so it wasn't fully reflected in the charts.

Even I admit that some of them are dull sounding - Jumanji and the new Hardy Caprio track spring to mind. Hopefully MoStack does well as that song has a bit of life to it. I do also think we are approaching peak saturation for these kinds of songs and in 6 months/a year they will have receded.

Its a shame songs like Lock Doh, Addison Lee, Dun Talkin, Samantha, Unsigned, No Don etc. never made the Top 40 but I suppose they were trailblazers for artists like Ramz and B Young to do so well commercially now.

Totally agreed, it's tedious dirge with nothing feasibly likeable about it.

It's rather annoying that Post Malone can just release a song which may as well be him farting into a microphone over lazily produced beats and be hitting such big numbers.

hope things change sooner than later

if it were urban tracks that were all amazing I'd be ok but I probably like 1/2 tracks (All the stars, My lover), while I find the rest pretty same-y

but I guess urban fans were also complaining but in the britpop era when any crappy guitar band like Mansun could get a top 10 single ;)

To be fair, I think 2017 was a vintage year for urban music in the charts - both quantity and quality (the quantity especially as the year went on) and the best since 2003. That's a lot to live up to.

Agree with everything here.

Is it trendy to mumble into a microphone and have a ‘good’ beat played over? There are some good urban songs about for sure, Barking by Ramz being a good example. However, it’s songs like Psycho, God’s Plan and Gucci Gang that are SO dull and lack pretty much everything.

I like Drake but his recent stuff is so boring.
