  • So many songs I like from from 1985 just from looking at the top 10 singles of the year. Tarzan Boy is probably my favourite of the top 10 hits from the year!

Probably the multiple episodes a night they're showing rather than once a week. The U brand is all BBC owned anyway

Not that I've seen. It's also on at 9am too but it's the same episodes each day. 1999 is due to start imminently

Ah yes I seen that they are KLF, they have a few more hits over the next 5 years!?

As said earlier the 23rd June episode wasn't shown due to the poor quality of the footage. We start with terrible SAWesque cheese from Hazel which abounds very Of it's time. The best part was Powell presenting with ridiculously short white shorts!! Springsteen video next of a track I'm not familiar with, sounds quite nice though. Wonderful Fast Car climbing the chart on its first run, pity we just got the video!

We don't get any breakers for the first time in ages, instead we get the hip hop classic Push it by Salt N Pepa, well the video anyway! We return to the studio with T'Pau with another nice pop/country number, albeit the hits were drying up already. Then another video of the rap version of the Twist which was at No2, they must have been desperate for it to reach the top spot.

Why did PHil Collins re-release In The Air again?

Bros spend a second week at no1 with the alright I Owe You Nothing!!

In The Air Tonight was a remix but not very different to the original. It just had some extra drums in the background during the quiet first half of the song. I don't why it was released,he didn't have a greatest hits collection out. It did very well to get as high as no.4,just two places lower than the original version.
I remember watching the performance of the original by him in the 1981 edition with the tin of paint and all there on stage.

Allegedly lol!

Its a fantastic song though and for me that was the single that propelled him to the heights he reached through the 80s.

Here's what I wrote about it in my 88 thread

"Selling over 400,000 copies in its original 1981 release “In The Air Tonight” now comes in an 1988 remixed form courtesy of Ben Liebrand who mixed the track for his DJ set telling the crowd that if they wanted the mix released then they should call Virgin records, apparently over a thousand queries were lodged with the label resulting ultimately in the song being issued. It charges 35-8 (23,000) this week, its Collins’s first release in 3 years and is his 7th top 10 single if you view it as a separate release to the original which of course went to No 2 behind John Lennon"

The episode where the lass in All About Eve couldn't hear the records track to mime to it. Just sat there LOL.

Great to see Janice back, for one of the last times!!

Some great songs and a lot of videos this week but when they are as good as Inxs Never Tear Us Apart who cares. Also the wonderful Everything But the Girl with the classic I Don't Wanna Talk About It and one of the final performances from The Communards in the studio. We get a second glimpse of the beautiful young Patsy Kensit with the cheese fest that is Eight Wonder. We end up with a cheesy Glenn Mederios at no1 with a song that has grown over the past 30 years (anyone know if this is the original?)after being used in many films/ads. He even got Presented with an 18th birthday cake by Kim Wilde which I'm sure was the highlight of his day. I actually like it but gutted it's holding Salt n Pepa back!! We finish with the punkish Transvision Vamp video!!

Ah yes, it's the first time it was a hit in the Uk wasn't it? Bensons version was no1 in America?

No afraid not. Just did a series of threads on other sites about the top 10 sales. I think someone linked you to them a little while ago.
