November 13, 200618 yr And Dowie's gone. :o Charlton have announced that manager Iain Dowie has left the club. The 41-year-old, who took over from long-standing boss Alan Curbishley in the summer, has only been in charge for 12 Premiership games. But the Addicks have only won two league matches and following a 3-2 defeat at Wigan on Saturday are bottom of the table with eight points. The former Crystal Palace boss did lead Charlton into the Carling Cup quarter-finals last week. The club said on their website that they would make a full statement on Tuesday morning. Dowie is the first Premiership manager to lose his job this season. Source: BBC Sport I think theres more than meets the eye to the story. He's only been in chage 12 games and yet he's sacked. I know Charlton were in a bad position but still, you'd have thought he's have had at least until Christmas to try and turn things around.
November 13, 200618 yr Author Never saw that coming. They've hit form recently too Unbeaten in 5 and then a loss away to Wigan (who, along with the top 2 are the form side atm!). Most odd.

Thats what I think as well. Charlton have been on a good spell of late yet they decide to sack a decent manager. I really don't have a clue who there gonna get to replace him, but I have a feeling there gonna be linked to Sven over the next week or so as just about every club who is managerless of late is been linked to him.
November 13, 200618 yr to me being bottom of the table is not good enough form. Charlton should be way higher up the table and this doesn't suprise me to be honest
November 13, 200618 yr Author But why sack him when they start to play well? And their next four fixtures are: Saturday, 18 November 2006 Barclays Premiership Reading v Charlton, 15:00 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday, 25 November 2006 Barclays Premiership Charlton v Everton, 12:45 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday, 02 December 2006 Barclays Premiership Sheff Utd v Charlton, 15:00 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday, 05 December 2006 Barclays Premiership Charlton v Blackburn, 20:00 It would make sense to let him do them first. They're easily capable of being 3-5 pts outside the bottom 3 with those!
November 13, 200618 yr Sounds like something unrelated to the playing side of things to me, it would be wrong to speculate of course as to the reason but I am sure there is more to this than results plus they are doing well in the cup Edited November 13, 200618 yr by Kimi Räikkönen
November 15, 200618 yr tbh, under Dowie I only see the Sheff UTd match where they would have had any joy
November 15, 200618 yr Stupid decision to sack Dowie. I really like him and think he is a great manager. No disrespect meant but Les Reed is gonna flop and get them relegated. Still, I like to see assistants and coaches already at a club to step up to manager and hope they do well although in this case I don't think he will do well and wish Dowie was still boss.

I wouldn't go that far, in the fact he's definitley gonna go and get them relegated. I think they'll struggle though. Supposivley Dowie was sacked because the Charlton chairman didn't like his approach towards the players, or something along those lines.
