To welcome the return of the gaming and Technology forum we have decided to a console rate on major gaming corporations. This edition is all about Nintendo. I have included most of their Home and handheld consoles.

So excited for this / discussing them all. Some of the earlier ones I haven't fully experienced but i've played games from them on virtual consoles/downloads so I will hopefully have a good idea of what each one offers.

 

Suspect Nintendo 64 or DS will win but who knows!

Looking forward to doing this and seeing the results, I've not owned them all but I've used them all at some point so should be able to give scores for each of them!

:o Why the dislike for the 64? On paper it has the best games and highest critical acclaim. It's also so fun!

06 Nintendo 64 (a tad overrated imo, it obviously had its solid exclusives but was eclipsed greatly by the PS1 for me. Super Mario 64 is also one of hte most overrated games ever soz x)

08 GameCube (never actually had one but played at friends etc, some amazing games.)

10 Wii (genius, so easy for anyone to pick up so it was always fun with family and stuff, they nailed the motion concept which could have easily gone tits up)

04 Wii U (pretty shit really, it took all the heart out of a Wii and had basically no essential games bar Maro Kart, total waste of my purchase tbh. I ended up using it to play Wii games instead most of the time, I guess the gamepad screen was cool to play on if someone else was using the TV as it was downstairs in my uni house, that's the only plus rly)

11.0 GameCube (This was my first ever actual console and I literally loved it to bits. Godzilla Destroy All Monsters [i think] and Pokemon Colosseum were my childhood all wrapped in two brilliantly addictive games. I know I had 5-6 other games too but I don't think I've ever played a game as much as I did these two back in the day)

10.0 Wii (I was one of those poor souls who didn't actually own a Wii, nor did I actually want one of my own, but adored playing on friends/cousins Wii's any chance I could. Where I came from it seemed everyone owned a Wii except for me :lol:)

xx.x Nintendo Switch (This is something I'm yet to own or even know anyone who owns one, I've heard great things about them and the games exclusive to the Switch - but I can't really judge until I've played it myself. Do this rate again in a year or so and I might have a rate for you :P)

10.0 Game Boy Advance (My actual first handheld device I ever owned was technically the Game Boy Advance SP but this counts the same, I loved the flip. I'd played with the previous Game Boys a few times but nothing compares to owning your first ever portable console [except owning your own home console, see GameCube :P]. I was very much a Pokemon kid and had so much fun with these, I swear I completed Pokemon Ruby 8+ times with basically the exact same Pokemon each time :lol: I remember spending hours trying to capture Aron east of Rustboro.. Omega Ruby wasn't the same. I had loads of games but I also remember a Shrek all-out fighting game of some kind. It was weirdly addictive and the sound of the wand shooting is forever lodged in my brain]

09.5 Nintendo DS (Cooking Mama, Pokemon Diamond, Mario Party, Nintendogs. Talk about a nostalgia trip]

08.0 Nintendo 3DS (Maybe it's because I got the 2DS because it was cheaper to buy, but I didn't really get into the 3DS as much as I would've liked. I still have this today and play the odd Super Smash Bro's/Mario Kart every so often]

I ADORE Nintendo so coming across as a fanboy but all of these consoles apart from NES and Game + Watch give me such good memories. Wii U was a bit of a misstep though, it has some really good games but not sure what they were thinking with it really. Still, that idea paved the way for the Switch which is way better. 3DS has a mark off because the 3D element wasn't all that, gave me a headache half the time so I rarely turned it on. So hard to decide on an 11 but the SNES will always have my heart.
