the lyrics are beyond terrible, ed at his worst

and the chorus is annoying to say the least

Yeah, it's a song about 2002 nostalgia but among many others, she references "99 Problems", which wasn't released until 2003. I sure hope someone was fired for that blunder.
And all the other songs mentioned were hits in 1999-2001 I think :')

I'm guessing the 'hold up' is referring to 'What Would You Do?', but I want to believe it's 'The Next Episode' considering the 4/20 release date

I like it but I also really liked Lost In Your Light and look how that turned out
Having now listened in full, it's cute enough, but yeah the chorus is... a choice. I don't hate Ed's style, but this is a bit too far into "obvious hit written by Ed Sheeran" for me to love it I think. With Love Yourself for example, you could tell it was written by Ed but Justin made it is own, whereas there's just something missing from this for me.

Agreed!

I actually hear 0% Ed Sheeran tbh.

It’s a cute song and I’m sure it’ll be much bigger than Heavy! It could do really well with a good video.

Future top 10/20 for sure.

Chorus sounds like Jessie J.

I'm keen :yahoo:

it is so written by ed sheeran; tacky lyrics, clumsy busker-esque melody and a novelty element running through it all

it’s v remiscent of ‘gallway girl’ in a lot of ways

i can’t believe i just quoted that abomination of a ‘voldemort’ song

probably the worst song i’ve heard all year and i will probably write a detailed reasoning in my year end

SAD!

Yikes even though the lyrics are tacky and it does sound female Ed, this is the first song I’ve properly liked by her in ages  It sounds so care free and (well obviously) nostalgic and fun. It does seem a bit contrived but as a song alone I can enjoy it.

it's 100% Ed and totally what I expected when I read Ed had written a song called 2002

I knew it was all gonna be ohhh in 2002 we were both 15 and we fell in love etc etc

I quite like this, such an odd chorus though, channelling Britney, 'N Sync, Nelly and I presume the 'hold up' is supposed to be inspired by Dr Dre's The Next Episode?
This is really good and tbh obviously it is Ed Sheeran writing it but I don't see that as a bad thing as I am a huge fan of his music and his songwriting
