Gah I feel so awful for him, he really poured so much into this and he delivered fun solid pop bops that sound like smashes. I just cannot understand how he can’t gain any traction :( he’s so passionate and I can’t imagine how tough and frustrating this must be for him. He deserves so much more.

I think maybe 'Never Forget You' was just an exceptional fluke for him and he was just never destined to properly make it as a solo artist. (or maybe if he'd not followed that single up with a selection of shit tracks)

I think he can still get hits as a featured artist ala Ella Eyre, RAYE etc. though.

Right. Never Forget You was on a hit because of Zara. Noone cares of him on the track.

Hes incredibly unlikeable & thats why only 800 people bothered with the record. Obviously theres other issues. Hes not particularly commercially viable as an artist. I assume the only reason Virgin released this album was so they could tie him into a publishing deal.

You sure about that? She was a nobody in the UK at the time of that release (Lush Life didn't smash till after) whereas MNEK had had the gorgon city feature & a couple of minor hits.

It's sad this album has performed the way it has, I've had it on loop on my Spotify for pretty much all the last week and it's a really strong, consistent pop/R&B album - 'Phone' in particular is my favourite. Like others have said I didn't expect a massive amount of success for it but to not even make the top 100 is pitiful. He can at least hold his head up high that he's produced an album that he totally believes in and that is of real quality.

It's sad more so because we've got some amazing pop writing and performing talent in this country who, for whatever reason, the public just don't get behind in their own right. Ed Drewett is another one who springs to mind, I've got the samplers from his unreleased album and it's criminal he's never enjoyed the success he's had writing with or for Little Mix, Olly Murs and The Wanted on his own merits.

I'd say those minor successes were mainly because Radio 1 were supporting him as a new act and they playlisted those first 3 singles then leading to him obtaining a Top 40 single. Since then/Never Forget You, radio genuinely haven't touched him.

Apologize for bumping this, I just realised Anne Marie co written Colour and it would be on Speak Your Mind instead had her label didn't reject the song.
