Without quoting I 100% agree with everything you said Liam  If I do eventually get a Switch I will probably get this if just for the experience of playing a Pokémon game on a TV (GameCube nostalgia right there).
Tbh if they were gonna deliver GCN nostalgia they could at LEAST create a spiritual successor to XD: Gale Of Darkness

I feel like the problem with using the GO mechanics is that it was all good when it was first released since the concept was new and widely available (even with the amount of bugs that came with it) but now the hype's been all used up. It just doesn't feel palpable with a game that's less... interactive.

The reviews are mostly positive but most of them hinge on nostalgia or are just strange. Nostalgia is great but I think reviewers should just judge the game on its gameplay instead. IGN said the motion controls are not great and that it was too easy yet it gives out an 8.3??

I don't want to buy this but I'm still scared I'll eventually cave  . The graphics are just so adorable. I just hate GameFreak/Nintendo/whoever for not making it better!

Something I am interested in is how Youtubers who do Nuzlockes etc are going to get around this game not having random encounters etc., I'm going to watch my favourite Poketuber (Patterrz *.*) doing his Nuzlocke of it and see, which will probably be my one form of consuming this game

I pre-ordered this game and f***ing loathe myself for it. Like, it seems objectively terrible and I do truly hope it flops so none of its influence creeps into the gen 8 games, but I'm an absolute sucker for nostalgia and RBY was the first ever games I played.

Having said that, I'm still beyond pissed at the amount of potential they squandered on this; a Kanto sequel with revamped routes/towns and a new Pokedex could've been incredible. Limiting it to the first 151 (plus the jizz pile and its evo I suppose) and replicating 20+ year old maps originally conceived for the Gameboy just seems so mind-boggling to me. Oh well. Guess I'll be using the likes of Persian, Sandslash and Dewgong for 150000th playthrough.

Edit: Okay the party sprites are triggering my OCD. Seems as if they created new ones for anything over 4 feet yet left the others as they were. Gamefreak half-assing yet another feature of this game.

I’ve had this on pre-order for what feels like ages and got my dispatch email today. I seriously hope it’s there for me to play tomorrow when I get home from work!

I downloaded expecting to play for 30 Minutes to 1 Hour, but ended up spending 2 1/2 Hours Playing.

Pleasantly surprised. Well, really not. We all know what to expect in the game itself, but there's enough there to keep playing. 1st pokemon I caught was Oddish, which is one of my favorites. Good tie in to Pokemon Go. TBH - had I not been up for 20 hours and have to be up early, I would have keep playing. I'm pleasantly surprised.

TBH - Less juvenile and hand holding compared to the last few games.

I've been watching bits of playthroughs and the watering down is just really putting me off  Like I said I'll watch Patterrz's Nuzlocke, I know watching doesn't form the same opinion but there's just so much about this game that makes me really not want to play it, the more I see the more there is. You don't get much experience from trainers it seems so you have to catch Pokemon for Exp, and surely the novelty of using the joycon to do that all the time like a Wii shovelware minigame collection would wear off? And like I've said many times, there's just so many corners cut and so much watering down, and there is just no need. It's just SO disappointing we could have had the first PROPER home console Pokemon title but yet again, it's not quite a normal title. It's definitely mostly nostalgia, and I find Gen 1 really overrated so don't have that same feeling towards it which doesn't help, it's a cute little package of nostalgia with not enough depth for me in terms of what I like from Pokemon. Now I know how FF fans felt over FFXV being so different yet easy to beginners to pick up! Like them though I'll just learn there are plenty of games for me and let this one be.

The partner Pokemon thing is adorable though I will say, Kangaskhan puts Pikachu/Eevee in her pouch with her baby if you use her as a ride Pokemon

Yeah, I see what you are saying Liam.

I haven't found it as watered down as I thought however. Sure. It's not as challenging as other Pokemon games, but Red/Blue/Yellow was never challenging to begin with.

I hate the EXP SHARE, but I haven't explored if that can be taken off.

Had it been solely a full copy of Red/Blue/Yellow I would be disappointed, but it's not. There are new pokemon in most areas I've gone too which is incentive enough for me to catch and explore as much as I can.

The only thing I don't like so far is the remote and throwing the Pokeballs. Partly I think it's because I have my AR not set up correctly but I seem to be going through Pokeballs like crazy. But. You do get them from beating other trainers.

I'm the type of person that once I have my team or I'm all trained up I avoid Pokemon Encounters. I like this setup because I can still see what's around and if it's a LARGE or HUGE pokemon (or whatever they're calling it) I'll go give it a catch.

There's enough new things to warrent a play through for me. Would I have liked a new generation completely? Yeah. Of course. But this is fun for now. As long as we aren't waiting another full year for a new game.

Nope you can't turn the Exp share off, tbh with the lack of Exp from battling trainers a lot of people are finding they really need it, but they really should have that choice left open! It's not an item it seems to just be a feature built into the game that automatically happens.
Yeah. I think I may need EXP Share afterall, someones Diglett just FISSURED 4 times successfully in a row. I just got to SS Anne and I'm just on the cusp of being under leveled. I've stepped back a bit from wild encounters.. or at least the Pokemon around where I am right now aren't ones I'm interested in.

Actually really want to buy this but I’d have to buy a Switch and I have no idea where I’d put it... Is it possible to plug a Switch into a laptop?

Despite no one really thinking much of this before it was released it looks like everyone is enjoying it :P It’s a step back from the core series games but it’s cute and plays into nostalgia a lot (obviously). I read that Alolan forms are in this though, are they wild like regular Pokémon or is it a different style? How can alolan Pokémon be in Kanye but nothing from Johto?

  • Author
You have to trade for them, you catch a normal one and there are various people who will trade their Alolan form for your Kanto form.

anyway I've been watching a playthrough of Let's Go Eevee and

I'm still not all that enthused about the jarring similarities to Pokemon Go but 20 minutes into the video I literally screamed "IT'S SO PURE"

Ngl I'm only at Cerulean City but this is incredibly addictive. A few niggly bits here and there but I'm really enjoying it!

No fishing rods

However, it’s still really enjoyable! Worth the purchase imo.

Aw what?! I legit searched Vermillion and just assumed I wasn’t looking hard enough

Yeah I was wondering why I wasn't finding any rods. I really want a Poliwag =\

The most frustrating bit so far is Lavender Town - Saffron City - Celadon City as there's only a small patch of grass with shitty pokemon and now I'm under leveled going into Silph Co.

In fact, in order to enter Sabrina's gym you need a Level 45 + Pokemon, and I don't have one (close to it..)

Decided to skip ahead and head to Fuschia City and complete the gym there and head back up to challenge Sabrina.

Team right now: Lapras, Gyarados, Snorlax, Charizard, Gloom and Pikachu.

May want a Poliwag/Dratini at some point so will need to sub some out.

Even though the Anime puts Sabrina 4th, pretty sure it's always been Celadon and then Fuschia before Saffron which would explain the high level needed. I sort don't like the 'you need this type' or 'you need this level Pokémon' before you can enter a gym. It takes the fun out of battling Sabrina with a level 20 Ditto
