I do believe i read somewhere that when the video was released some thought she looked like a prostitute in the video, was that associated with What Do I Have To Do or was it Word Is Out.

That video to WDIHTD kind of killed her in teen magazines back then, after that she only got negative press. When that Shocked video was released it was like Kylie lost her mind. All that stuff involved Zane O'Donnell being in both videos didn't help either... I still wonder why SAW allowed Kylie's new image. Maybe they were so afraid they might lose her like Rick Astley before, they let her do anything she wanted.
They couldn't keep her doing the same bubblegum thing forever, she was, and is, her own woman.
She actually filmed Better the devil you know video while she was on a holiday in Melbourne. By then, the PWL had no choice but to release it.

I think PWL saw that Kylie was in it for the long haul and wanted musical and career development and this is likely why they allowed the videos.

I do believe Pete Waterman wasn't happy with the videos but Kylie got her way with them which looking back was the right choice for Kylie.

From all the PWL productions (and i was a fan of their work in large) Rhtythm of Love was one of the most different productions to come out of their factory.

Pete Waterman has often said in interviews that Kylie was the making and breaking of PWL.

Rhythm of love was def one of pwl's bolder productions and I'm sure it's an album both they snd Kylie are very proud of.Kylie needed to go that album to as it was Kylie becoming a woman snd expressing this and her confidence in the videos.

I would think when PWL and Kylie were working on this album, PWL would have started to get an inkling that Kylie wouldn't be with them for much longer.

Kylie was starting to take more control and likely would have become more accustomed to expressing what she was and wasn't happy with.

IT was def a sign Kylie was in ways starting to rebel and prob lost some of her teen audience but she was lucky that made some cross overs. To be fair with Kylie she never made the same album twice as she progressed and diversified with all her albums.

Her albums to her credit offer something different each time.

Kylie has never shied away from trying something new.

After such huge success with Fever, she could have easily followed it up with the same style album but done something completely different.

The choice is debatable, creativity was a great move but it is likely she could have had a bigger selling album if she choose something more similar to the Fever material.

I vote for Better The Devil You Know. I like that Steps did a Kylie song, but I would rather they'd gone for a different one, preferably an album track.

My fav Kylie album changes from her debut to Rhythm Of Love. Both perfection ! I just wish they'd squeezed out another couple of singles from ROL.

I would agree that Steps should have picked a different song as Better The Devil You Know was too much of a Kylie classic to touch and that's coming from a Steps fan.

Kylie had so many album tracks like you mentioned that they could have covered instead and turned it into a hit and also bringing exposure to the track for Kylie.
