He will be relying on album sales during the xmas period but think this may be his last. The song is okay but that is it.

He will be relying on album sales during the xmas period but think this may be his last.

I don't mean to be rude, but says who exactly?

If this was a female pop artist (mentioning no names, but can think of several of a similar age to Olly and with an equally long career as his) and there were cries for them to retire/quit/release their last album, there would be an uproar and accusations of sexism as well as ageism. Somehow, because he's not Drake/Bieber/whoever else is flavour of the month, that makes it OK to go after him and say he should quit. Excuse my French, but what a load of b******ks.

I wouldn't even mind but he's 34. Hardly geriatric by anyone's standards. I've accepted it takes longer for his singles to peak compared to say, five or even four years ago, because it's a different market of how music is consumed now and that's how it works. But they're always consistent sellers long term, and he always gets radio play. 'Moves' is #8 on UK airplay after just its first week. 'Kiss Me' and 'You Don't Know Love', and even 'Dear Darlin' are perfect examples of that.

But as was discussed quite recently in the 'retiring' topic on here, if an artist still has a passion for what they do, and still have a sizable fanbase there for their new material and there for their tours, who is anyone to say that an album has to be their last? The decision of whether or not they carry on is the artist's at the end of the day.

I wasn't meaning to come across in such a negative way, I like him but am slightly concerned for him. I genuinely do not think the song is strong enough. I want him to do well and actually agree with what your posting. So many of my favourite artists have been dropped after sales declined and I just expect it now! He may come out with another single and the album may do well as I said but who knows. He has come out with some really good songs but I just do not see the same hype for him, saying that...the charts work differently now and there are a lot of sleeper hits. My post came out completely wrong but IF it does not do too well then who knows if he will carry on or not?

One of my favourite artists is Foxes and she has disappeared of the face of the earth after her album did poorly but obviously Olly is a much bigger artist than her.

Down to #74 this week, but up four places to #4 on UK airplay chart :yahoo:

He's just finished a local radio promo tour this week, and has said the video is coming in the next week (and may possibly feature a guest appearance from Rowan Atkinson).

Surprised this has performed so poorly given he is no4 on airplay.

And let's not forget that he also had a major performance slot watched by millions.

Olly said in an interview that the person saying 'Slow down!' is Ed Sheeran himself!

I saw that on Twits yesterday :D I did wonder who that was, I thought maybe it was John and Darren (his two B/Vs when he performs live)!

Back up eight to #66 on chart this week. Still top 5 on airplay as well!

Been rising on iTunes and is steady on both Spotify and Apple Music this week! Given next weekend the album is out and he's also performing his next single 'Love Me Again' on X Factor I think this'll probably be the last week of push/promo for this single.

He performed 'Moves' and 'Troublemaker' acoustically into Ken Bruce's show on Radio 2 this morning - broadcast from a pod on the London Eye no less to mark the launch of the BBC's new Sounds app: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0000ycl

Even though they didn't playlist it, Radio 1 have been playing this recently!

Shame they couldn't do that when the single was actually out and being promoted <_<
