October 31, 200618 yr Old people deserve respect they are the reason we have the freedom of speech we have today and we should be grateful to them for that and c**ts who mug them for their pension etc should be tortured to within an inch of their lives I do treat old people with respect, if I see an elderly lady in the street struggling with her shopping etc I offer to carry it for them and they are grateful etc because I have respect for the generation that fought for us I don't think you should respect your elders just for the sake of the fact tehy are your elders - would you respect, say, Hitler if he were still alive, even if he were your elder? I think you should only respect people for doing things worthy of respect, or if they respect you, not for the fact that they are older thank you (which they had no bearing over and is open to people who don't deserve respect demanding it).

October 31, 200618 yr This questions too much for me tonight, been on the wine lol lol I not had a drop for once ^_^ But I fully agree with mushymanrob's last post
October 31, 200618 yr Author Some old people arent very nice. Like my nan and grandad. I dont respect them at all by whos standards?... without them you wouldnt exist... that in itself demands respect, like it or not.
October 31, 200618 yr lol I not had a drop for once ^_^ But I fully agree with mushymanrob's last post I do sort of, but they had to fight. They didnt have a choice
October 31, 200618 yr Some old people arent very nice. Like my nan and grandad. I dont respect them at all yeah but they have personally affected you etc which is 2 elderly people out of millions, I respect the elderly far more than I respect any other sector of society, were it not for the elderly we would be goose stepping and having to abide by nazi rules and we would not have the freedom of speech of a message board like this, my respect for that generation knows no limits
October 31, 200618 yr by whos standards?... without them you wouldnt exist... that in itself demands respect, like it or not. You dont know them or what they're like. They produced my dad ffs, thats enough. My nan lied about me to my mum, she hates my mum, worships my dad even though he cheated on my mum. I hate them, and his brother and sister. I am likely never gonna see them ever again.

Experience shapes us all
October 31, 200618 yr Author Experience shapes us all true, plus the ability to recognise what values you as a person wants to uphold and what you want to reject. no one has to live within the confines of 'what they are given'... personal development....

I was merely giving an example - would you give respect to Hitler because he was your elder? And the old people who you work for may be great, decent members of society, but not all old people are, and that is a fact. I would not respect the people you work for because they were older than me, I would respect them because of the fact they are great, decent members of society who fought for the freedoms we enjoy.
November 1, 200618 yr Author its a silly example and proves nothing. yes i still respect older people

Your confusing the concept of "respect". Respect does not include to be conivent with wrong atitude. So you could still "respectfully" sentence Hitler to death...
November 1, 200618 yr its a silly example and proves nothing. yes i still respect older people It's not necessarily a silly example - if Hitler were alive today and in your community, would you respect him because he was your elder? It proves that not all elders command respect for being your elder, respect ought to come from deeds that they have done over their lives rather than a quick cash-in for respect after realising they are elders. I know many horrid old people who DIDN'T fight in the war, who don't treat anybody else with respect, who demand respect without dishing any out. I don't respect these people just because they're older than me. Edited November 1, 200618 yr by Betty's Messenger
