Emeli had a massive seller debut (2.4 mil), then a semi-flop 2nd era (200k)

 

Joss Stone's first two albums did roughly the same (around 1 million), while none was that big as Emwli

 

Emeli's pattern is more like Leona Lewis or Sam Smith

Also for me both Emeli and Leonas follow up (album 2) was better than their huge debut eras.

 

 

I'd definitetely say Leona's second album/era was considerably more successful than Emeli's even taking into account the market changes.

 

I think Leona and Sam's trajectories so far are a valid comparison though. Maybe he'll have his Glassheart next time?

Echo by Leona was in no way a flop. It didn't get anywhere near to the level of Spirit granted, but it did 600k + in total and went number 1 on huge opening sales. As others have said, Emeli did a Duffy with her second album.
