Posted November 5, 200618 yr so the the skids and big country. were they v influencial then? v well liked? they never seem to be mentioned by anyone in the press. or have big articles
November 5, 200618 yr The Skids were pretty popular around 78-80 if I recall - they had a few smallish top 40 hits - 'Into the Valley' was their biggest I think - but I wouldn't call them influential. Richard Jobson the singer went onto be a TV presenter and model. Big Country sold quite a few records and had some sizeable hits, but they were always looked on as a bit of a joke, to be honest - REALLY uncool to like, but someone obviously did as they had quite a few top 20 and top 40 singles and big albums, too.
November 5, 200618 yr LOVED 'into the valley' (but wtf were the lyrics?...lol) i rated the skids as one of 'new waves' best acts. 2 members went on to form 'fine young canibals' i believe (memory slipping!) i didnt much like big country, they were mid 80's pop that were not influencial at all, but were a decent enough group.
November 7, 200618 yr Author Richard Jobson the singer went onto be a TV presenter and model. however other peeps might know him as a film director too, he tried to do a HK style martial arts film with Dominic Monaghan. it was called The Purifiers and supposed to be one of the worst films ever made. the alcohol one supposed to be more watchable

"Into The Valley" has one of the best intros of all time. I love that bass guitar, then followed by the drums and then lead guitar... pure class!

November 8, 200618 yr gotta be the most incomprehensible lyrics ever! ...lol... Hey I come from the same part of the country as him,and I can't understand what he is saying either
November 8, 200618 yr Here are the lyrics, but you could have fooled me  Into The Valley Into the Valley Betrothed and divine Realisations no virtue But who can define Why soldiers go marching Those masses a line This disease is catching From victory to stone Ahoy! Ahoy! Land, sea and sky Ahoy! Ahoy! Boy, man and soldier Ahoy! Ahoy! Deceived and then punctured Ahoy! Ahoy! Long may they die Out of concealment Blank and stark eyed Why so uncertain This culture deceives Prophesised, brainwashed Tomorrow's demise All systems failing The placards unroll Ahoy! Ahoy! Land, sea and sky Ahoy! Ahoy! Boy, man and soldier Ahoy! Ahoy! Deceived and then punctured Ahoy! Ahoy! Long may they die Time for the audit The gathering trial A collectors dilemma Repositioned and filed Words: Richard Jobson Music: Stuart Adamson
November 8, 200618 yr Hey I come from the same part of the country as him,and I can't understand what he is saying either  it's quite amazing that the lyrics are totally incomprehensible! The song still sounds quite good though...
