Posted March 22, 20196 yr My favourite book series is being made into a TV drama finally! Filming is currently taking place in South Africa. The series spanned 4 books (and 2 novellas/short stories), written by Malorie Blackman, and is set in a dystopian 21st century Britain where the black ‘Crosses’ rule over the white ‘Noughts’. Described by the BBC as a gripping story of first love in a dangerous, alternate world where racism divides society. BAFTA Cymru winner Jack Rowan (Peaky Blinders, Born to Kill) will play Callum McGregor and newcomer Masali Baduza has been cast as Sephy Hadley. Other cast include Helen Baxendale, Paterson Joseph and Ian Hart. Stormzy has also been cast as a character created specifically for the TV series.

March 5, 20205 yr Author Just been reading a Q&A about this and there’s some significant differences from the book which I’m not sure about... Callum’s sister Lynette for instance is nowhere to be seen and she had quite a big part in the book. Looking forward to this tonight though
March 7, 20205 yr I enjoyed the first episode of this, quite brutal in places but feels extremely relevant today especially with the police brutality element and the whole look and feel of the show is a fantastic study of contrasts. Will stick with it. I started reading the first book years ago, but never finished it. I'm not sure why, I do remember finding it quite intriguing.
April 9, 20205 yr Saw this show on iPlayer last month. It was a great show! The way racism is covered in this show has an interesting role reversal to it. It also takes a look at the corrupt motives and hypocritical mindsets of political figures and how they can gain power through tabloids. My favourite character has to be Meggy for being a fantastic mother, with second place going to Ryan for that sacrifice he made in the 4th episode, as well as his fate at the end of the 5th episode was very symbolic of the effects of injustice.

The books are great, I think the second, Knife Edge, is my favourite. I haven’t got round to buying Crossfire yet Can we just take a second to LOL at Stormzy being hyped for this only to appear for 2 minutes in the final episode and that was it?
May 17, 20205 yr I finished this since, great series but the big deviation from the original book ending and Calum living was a bit :mellow: I suppose it was pretty gloomy overall that that would've sent it over the edge and have a new vision, or maybe they're not done adapting the book yet as I think I read this season didn't cover all of the events there, definitely enough material for a second season if one is allowed!

April 12, 20223 yr Series 2 starts 10:40pm on 26 April on BBC One. I was surprised it was renewed for a second series as ratings for the first were quite bad and I guess that’s why it’s got an awful timeslot… but if they’re going to dump it there, surely it’s better to place it on BBC Three to draw crowds back there? At least it would show more purpose for bringing the channel back.
