A huge night now. First up the red carpet. A look so beautiful, powerful and elegant. Custom dress and heels by Alexander McQueen, underskirt by Alex Noble and custom headpiece by Perry Meek. She was accompanied on the red carpet by an entourage consisting of former soldiers discharged from service, due to "Don't Ask, Don't Tell", a policy of the United States' military

On the night, she won the awards for "Best Dance Video", and "Best Collaboration" with "Bad Romance" and "Telephone", respectively.

And of course stole the show wearing, arguably, her most iconic and talked about look ever: the infamous Meat Dress. Made entirely from beef, it was condemned by animal rights groups, and named by Time as the top fashion statement of 2010. Gaga explained following the awards ceremony that the dress was a statement about one's need to fight for what one believes in, and highlighted her distaste for the US military's don't-ask-don't-tell policy.

As the world eagerly anticipated Gaga's next move, how could she shock further? The answer: arriving on the red carpet encased in a vessel. She was carried by a troop of dancers and remained in the vessel for the entire period in which she was on the red carpet. The statement signified the beginning of her "Rebirth". On the main stage, she wowed audiences with the first full live performance of 'Born This Way'.

In March 2011, Gaga made her runway debut. She rocked Thierry Mugler's fashion show in Paris owning the catwalk and premiering a demo version of what soon became album tracks 'Scheiße' and 'Government Hooker'.

At a press conference in Mexico City to promote her Born This Way album, Gaga donned this sheer cobalt blue midi (with matching nipple tape) and her now-signature black platforms. She sat upon her motorbike which also featured on the album's artwork.

To the VMAs 2011, Gaga was not in attendance. Lady Gaga had four nominations this year, with "Best Female Video" and "Best Video with a Message" being won by "Born This Way," and with "Judas" being nominated for "Best Art Direction" and "Best Choreography." Jo Calderone appeared at the VMA's in place of Gaga, performed Yoü & I, and introduced the Britney Spears tribute.

MTV EMAs were out of this world as Gaga performed 'Marry The Night' atop a huge moon with satellite costuming. She won big on the night too.

Gaga was quiet for most of 2012, touring Born This Way and readying her next album. A few of her appearances while touring the world made the headlines including the two here. One a piece by Comme des Garçons, as she left a hotel in Paris. The other a dramatic entrance, emerging form a black and gold carriage at the Herald Square Macy's in New York City wearing an alien-like headpiece and equally spacey reflective gown.

Seen leaving her hotel in Milan, Gaga was no longer monstrous or zany, instead she was stunningly beautiful, classy and refined in Versace.

After a long, long while out of the headlines, Gaga arrived, all smiles again back at the MTV VMAs ready to perform her new lead single 'Applause'.
