I was wondering, does shakira as an artist and her music fall under the catagory, Latin American Music?

Im not really sure to be honest.

 

As an artist she's considered latin american, and I think she's classified as latin-rock, even though she says she is a pop artist. however, im not sure wether because she sings in spanish that automatically makes her music latin-american.

I think she's a pop artist, but because she's from Latin America it makes her music Latin, even her English stuff for some reason. It annoys me sometimes that in America she is only considered for awards in Latin categories despite being huge on the mainstream pop charts.

 

Even her Spanish music isn't very Latin, it's just like your typical pop artist but sung in Spanish - I think that's what sets her apart from other Latin artists. Her music often uses elements of Latin music but it never usually sounds like something that you would only hear in Spain. In fact, the only song I think is solely a Latin song is Ciega Sordomuda from MTV Unplugged.

ah ok thanks, cause we where talking about Latin American Music in music the other day and I was wondering about Shakira, cause her music dosn't fall into catagories such as Salsa, Tango and the other one :P
