June 3, 20196 yr Author Some countries start early!! Here was me hoping for an Isac Elliot internal selection but after Darude achieved the worst Finnish result since 2005, the broadcaster has today announced that their national selection will revert to an open submissions process with multiple artists. Interested parties have a few months to prepare songs as submissions will be open during the first week of November.
January 21, 20205 yr Author My prayers for Isac Elliot or Robin remain unanswered for another year :( Tika – I Let My Heart Break Erika Vikman – Cicciolina Aksel Kankaanranta – Looking Back F3M – Bananas Sansa – Lover View Catharina Zühlke – Eternity The first song will be released on Friday, and then one a day from Monday to Friday next week (I do love these countries that pace themselves, unlike Moldova who dropped 36 songs in one go - I don’t have the time or patience, love!!!)
January 24, 20205 yr Author We now have three songs for this, the others being Tika (the official release for today) and Erika (another leak), and so far "Bananas" is EASILY leading the way for me, what a bop. I am worried though that having only one man in the selection will work as an advantage to Aksel..his song could be good, but I've seen it described as similar to Sam Smith or James Arthur.
February 2, 20205 yr Jesus this selection SLAPS HARD, not a dud amongst them. Obviously I'm all over 'Cicciolina' like a rash and it's fab to see it becoming a domestic hit in Finland. 'Bananas' is f***ing brilliant though and I think it edges out as the best choice for Eurovision over Erika. 'Eternity' is your classic ballad to banger and I believe Zühlke can belt so that's one that can only get better live, although I don't think it would do anything in Rotterdam. The other 3 I don't love as much but they're still very serviceable, I do wonder if Aksel will have the advantage of being the only male in the line-up, if this were Sweden it'd be a done deal but fortunately it isn't! 11/10 This. Is. Why. I. Come. Here. F3M - Bananas Erika Vikman - Cicciolina 10/10 Banger for NF season but probs best left there Catharina Zühlke - Eternity 7/10 Not mad at them and will probs continue to grow TIKA - I Let My Heart Break Aksel - Looking Back Sansa - Lover View
March 7, 20205 yr So we're forming the pan-European prayer circle for Cicciolina (which all indications point to being just as high camp extravaganza in performance as it is on record) as she's been put in the 2nd place "death slot". Her nearest rivals - by which we mean around 150k views versus over 1 million views level of 'nearest' - seem to be Aksel and Tika, the latter of whom has been given the pimp slot and all of the classic "winner" signals - pyro curtain, the lot! So if anything is going to beat Erika I'd say she's the most likely. So the question is, does Erika's huge lead in streaming, views and being an actual domestic hit in Finland mean she's going to get so much of a televoting lead that unless she's dead last with the juries she's going to take the win like Bilal Hassani in DE 2019? And is 2nd place really much of a handicap when there's only six songs in the final anyway? And how much will the juries really penalise her given that William from wiwibloggs is one of the UK jurors? Fascinating questions and of course it's all completely overlapping with Melfest the one year that UMK significantly raises the bar!
March 7, 20205 yr So the planned ‘usurper’ to Erika consistently missed all the marks with the dancers so there’s that!
