November 10, 200618 yr Isn't Metallica metal? I just thought Oasis were indie. yes, Metal, heavy rock. Oasis are known as a Rock 'N' Roll band. e-motion mentioned both Metallica & Radiohead so he must mean who was the best band of the 90's wether they are metal or Indie. I mean Radiohead are'nt exactly rock either.
November 10, 200618 yr Oasis are a Britpop band.... They started out as being an Indie band on Creation records, and I would say that "Definitely Maybe" is by far their most 'Indie' album, but they quickly became more Pop/Rock as they got bigger... Same goes for U2.... IMO, U2's best material by far is in the early/mid 80s.....
November 10, 200618 yr . I mean Radiohead are'nt exactly rock either. Their debut album was quite grungey i guess, in fact i believe Radiohead were big in the US before they were big in the UK, when Creep Came out anyways. My fav band of the 90s is RATM. Awesome band, personally i think they split at the wrong time. I would love to hear what they think of the Bush Administration :cheer: Edited November 10, 200618 yr by Joey Deacon

I know what your saying, I mean songs such as "All around the world" are sort of pop but overall they have a much rockier sounds then most other Indie bands IMO. U2 were probebly at their best in the 80's but Achung Baby is their best and most diverce album IMO. Their last two albums have pissed over most of what is out there these days if you ask me. That's one of the great things about U2, they have done various different syles of music over their 30 year carear, It annoys me that a band like Coldplay get so much critical acclaim when their songs mostly sound the same <_<

They'd all likely be considered 'Rock' or 'Indie'..... The genre lines have become quite seriously blurred (somthing I've been warning people about for ages now..) and it is not a good thing, because now we are struggling to decide exactly what it is that constitutes a 'Rock' band on this thread...... 20-odd years ago, I think this would have been a far simpler question to address... As far as U2 goes, I would say they are far better than the likes of Coldplay, for a start I dont get quite as large an overwhelming urge to smash the radio when a U2 song is on as I do when Comaplay are on....
November 10, 200618 yr 20 years ago 'rock' had a metal edge to it.. .radiohead, oasis, etc wouldn't even be considered. nirvana never tried, nor wanted to get such fame. I've never been the biggest fan (and i'm from seattle) and only have Bleach, but you can't take away what they did. Yes, bands like Pavement, Pixies, Sonic Youth deserved the success more.... but that's more often the case than not in music unfortuneatly...
November 10, 200618 yr Isn't Metallica metal? There 80's stuff was thrash/speed metal, the black album was metal and the stuff after that was shit hard rock/rock ;)
November 12, 200618 yr Pulp - I wouldn't regard them as 'rock' tbh.... Indie Pop... well its the old problem of the indie and alternative rock forum , shall it include the acts that are nodding more towards kerrang! or is that what the punk and metal area for. and this area for more things influenced by the smiths/c86, more britpop/jangly indie things??? its the uk/usa division most of the time innit

Hong Kong Garden-Siouxsie & The Banshees 2. Aphrodisiac-Bow Wow Wow 3. What Ever Happened-The Strokes 4. Pulling Our Weight-The Radio Dept. 5. Ceremony-New Order 6. Fools Rush In-Bow Wow Wow [Kevin Shields Remix] 9. Avril 14th-Aphex Twin 10. K. 213-Domenico Scarlatti 11. Tommib Help Buss-Squarepusher 12. Tristes Appretes, Pales Flambeaux (From Castor Et Pollux)-Jean-Philippe Rameau / Les Arts Florissants 13. Opus 36-Dustin O'Halloran 14. All Cats Are Grey-The Cure As far as U2 goes, I would say they are far better than the likes of Coldplay, for a start I dont get quite as large an overwhelming urge to smash the radio when a U2 song is on as I do when Comaplay are on.... you must be happy that the cure are getting loads of play on the film trailers at the mo. what with all the snowplay tunes on american trailer previously you must have been boiling red behing your popcorn mate!!!
