Posted November 9, 200618 yr UK acts dominate album sales list bbc.co.uk British acts have so far dominated the European album market in 2006, according to industry figures. Artists such as The Kooks, Sugababes and Katie Melua have scooped 19 of the year's 36 IFPI Platinum Awards for selling one million copies or more. The top performer was Robbie Williams who took three awards, including one for his latest album, Rudebox, which sold two million copies in one week. The US had 12 acts on the list, including UK-signed Scissor Sisters. The British Phonographic Institute (BPI) said the results underlined the current boom in new British music. Six of the 19 UK Platinum Award winners are 2006 releases. Euro Top Sellers 1. Robbie Williams - Greatest Hits - 5m 2. James Blunt - Back to Bedlam - 5m 3. Robbie Williams - Intensive Care - 5m 4. Coldplay - X&Y - 4m 5. Madonna - Confessions on a Dancefloor - 4m BPI Chairman Peter Jamieson said: "These latest figures confirm that we are going through a golden age for new British music, even by our own high standards. "The success UK music is enjoying today bodes well for future years because, as ever in music, it's the hits of today which pay for the hits of tomorrow." He also said the UK's haul of Platinum Awards for 2006 is likely to go even higher when releases by Arctic Monkeys, Snow Patrol, Corinne Bailey Rae, Keane and Razorlight are finally calculated. A Platinum Award is given for any album which exceeds one million sales, or a multiple thereof, within the given period.
November 9, 200618 yr Kinda Strange... Back To Bedlam sold well over 10m worldwide and only 2m i US, 05m in Australia, 360k in Japan.... Media Traffic doen't include much other countries outside the Europe... It should have sold well over 6 million in Europe alone.... Especially when 3 million were sold in UK alone.... November 9, 200618 yr Author Kinda Strange... Back To Bedlam sold well over 10m worldwide and only 2m i US, 05m in Australia, 360k in Japan.... It has sold more than 5 million in the IFPI's article along with Robbie's IC back in March if I remember correctly but neither albums have reached 6 million yet. Media Traffic sales tend to be either way to high or way to low
November 9, 200618 yr UK acts dominate album sales list bbc.co.uk The top performer was Robbie Williams who took three awards, including one for his latest album, Rudebox, which sold two million copies in one week. That article is so wrong... Robbie didn't sell 2 millions in a week of Rudebox... In fact he sold less than 400K
November 9, 200618 yr But this is THIS YEAR. It hasn't sold 3m copies in 2006!! I can hardly believe it has sold 5 million this year in Europe alone as well :( There's something wrong with that article....
November 9, 200618 yr That article is so wrong... Robbie didn't sell 2 millions in a week of Rudebox... In fact he sold less than 400K  probally worldwide
November 9, 200618 yr probally worldwide That's what I'm telling you :P ... He sold less than 400K worlwide
November 9, 200618 yr BPI/IFPI figures are based on Units Shipped to suppliers. Media Traffic figures are over the counter sales to customers. IFPI figures are Europe only (UK included).
November 9, 200618 yr Oh and the IFPI figures quoted (the 'millions' sold/shipped) are the totals since each album was released, not just the 2006 sales figures. ^_^
