To mark the 10 year anniversary of Frightened Rabbit's 'The Midnight Organ Fright' it's going to be re-released with artists they're friends with taking on a song each. Scott Hutchison was heavily involved in it before his death last year. It'll be released on July 12th, earlier this week they shared both Biffy Clyro and Julien Baker's somewhat different versions of 'The Modern Leper'. I think both are wonderful and am looking forwards to listening to this - I've got into the album a lot over the past year, it really is stunning.

Full tracklist:

Biffy Clyro – The Modern Leper

Oxford Collapse – I Feel Better

Fiskur – Good Arms vs Bad Arms

Right On Dynamite – Fast Blood

Josh Ritter – Old Old Fashioned

Wintersleep – The Twist

Peter Katis – Bright Pink Bookmark

Craig Finn – Head Rolls Off

Harkin & Sarah Silverman – My Backwards Walk

Ben Gibbard – Keep Yourself Warm

Inletts/Jeff Zeigler – Extrasupervery

Daughter – Poke

The Twilight Sad – Floating In The Forth

Aaron Dessner/Lauren Mayberry -Who'd You Kill Now

Julien Baker – The Modern Leper

Piano Bar Fight – The Twist

Manchester Orchestra – My Backwards Walk

There was a very touching article in the Guardian on Friday interviewing Scott's brother Grant.

Julien Baker and Daughter in the same album <3

they could have released the 2 versions of Modern leper

as a double A-side

would have been nice

I saw them live in Copenhagen a few months before his dead :/

one of the most under-rated bands ever

Daughter's version of Poke is so so good. Album out Friday, have pre-ordered a physical copy, first I've bought on its own in a looong time.

I don't know any of the originals of these songs (the only Frightened Rabbit songs I'm familiar with are a couple of the singles from their 2013 album) but I'm really enjoying both Biffy Clyro's and Daughter's covers for this album. The rest of the artists on here mostly don't interest me nearly as much (read: I have never heard of most of them) but I will check out the Benjamin Gibbard one as well at least.

Aside, it's kind of morbid to discover that they had a song titled 'Floating In The Forth' considering the way Scott Hutchinson ended up dying, it's clear that he'd been considering it for a long time before doing it. :(

the album is great

the thing that stands out after like 5 nanoseconds is what a gifted and amazing lyricist he was... was listening now to Julien Baker's cover of The Modern Leper and every line is genious... pure genious... it's a 10/10 in songwriting... no wonder everything in the charts sounds like a 0/10 in songwriting in comparison when you listen to so-called singer-songwriters singing I grossed a billion in the Divide tour :/

I think this is a very well-made and fitting tribute. Whether you like the artists performing or not, what is clear throughout is the outstanding quality of the lyrics which permeate through the album. These are songs which have never become obsolete; they remain as relevant now as they did eleven years ago.

I also ordered the CD/t-shirt combination and I'm v.happy that I did.
