Wonder why they didn’t do that for Blessings, Beauty & A Beat or Turn the Lights Off? She Did It Again came and gone on Capital

The Hits playlist looks far too similar to what KISS play I just wonder why they have both the stations still going at the same time

KISS had to get more pop friendly cause they were losing money. Idk if that's still the case. The difference is KISS play the GOOD pop songs (+ Ordinary by Alex Warren for whatever reason).

also to your other comment, KATO - Turn The Lights Off (the song being referred to) only made it as far as the hype list and was never playlisted. Sami just likes to waffle about random songs for whatever reason.

What version of Angel of My Dreams do Bauer stations play? Is it the club version just with a slightly different intro?

Angel Of My Dreams actually had its Bauer radio edit predate the club version, it has the first chorus replace the intro and then goes into the regular song after that but then:

KISS - cuts out before the outro (probably to keep in line with the whole dance & rnb vibe they were going for)

Hits - keeps the outro untouched.

So like yea but also no? It's by far one of the weirdest examples of an edit in the Bauer system (alongside KISS’s So Easy and Ordinary edits kink)

The thing with this is KISS has always been pop friendly, maybe not in the way that you see it but when I’ve been listening in and out over the years they’ve always had the biggest pop songs from 2012-2019, there have been artists they’ve ignored completely (I can’t think of any off the top of my head) which I don’t understand at all but it’s always had a dance or “UK urban” leaning direction no matter what they’ve decided to go for today. Not sure if you’re a fan of the station like me but it doesn’t sound any different than it did 10 years ago, maybe with the exception of Chappell Roan and Olivia Rodrigo individually, I believe they would never have got played on KISS if it was 10 years ago.

To answer some other point you made about the weird remixes, I can’t believe they are still doing this I always thought it was over the years they choose to play some alternative version. The Olivia Dean one I like and now when I hear it on streaming platforms I can’t bear the original version, way too slow for me.

I totally missed out the dance & R&B era, I caught a glimpse and I remember the station looking totally different. Since the rebrand they had earlier this year I’ve been really enjoying it and it sounds impressive against the competition for once. The Hype list stuff I don’t agree with, they have far too many old songs on the playlist and their radio formula sounds so outdated, not enough new stuff like there is on Capital for example and I’m sure this wasn’t always the case. I don’t know why Capital and KISS seem to have a huge focus on “anthems” now, it’s ruining both stations. They should limit it to one or two an hour.

oh no i fully agree that they were pop friendly in the 2010s, i grew up listening to KISS if i was ever listening to radio cause of how good it was. They really distanced from mainstream pop songs in around 2022-2023, with the rise of dance music in monoculture they used it as an escape, they had pop songs on every now and then but they were always dance-pop or pop songs that could blend in with the dance & rnb vibe KISS had (think Taylor Swift’s ‘Lavender Haze’ or almost any song by Tate McRae).

The remixes aren't like dance remixes for pop songs, we're talking the regular song having its instrumental toyed with and becoming a weird concoction, they have done it for many songs this year.

The Hype List isn't usually this throwback led mess, it was really interesting earlier this year as you could see who they were willing to play but the songs might not have been popular enough. Both KISS and Capital actually only play around 5-6 “anthems” an hour, which is not half bad, sure it could be a bit less but when their playlists aren't as expansive in new music as Radio 1 what are they supposed to do.

Kiss has definitely become the "social media" brand for Bauer. When they relaunched earlier this year with its new branding, new breakfast show etc. they had said that their focus was to try and attract more users to social media content produced by and for the station. It's not surprising now that they're enticing people in on that basis with a playlist that only slightly differs from Hits.

Even in the recent RAJAR results, it was the focus for the station:

"Bauer also reports growth across KISS’s social media platforms, with views increasing 35% year-on-year, including a doubling of YouTube views and a 78% increase on Instagram."
