I'm sorry but the Keane version of 'Somewhere Only We Know' is far superior to Lily's version.

I liked 'La La La' by Naughty Boy and Sam Smith. An unusual song but very catchy. Even though I'm not a fan of Sam Smith, I find his maudlin, shrill voice off putting. However, I think his vocals work well on this track. The music video is weird. Reminds me of the Wizard of Oz a bit. 😆

Is anyone planning on updating this thread?

John Newman's 'Love Me Again' was another song that I loved in 2013. I think it would be number 1 for me. It's interesting how varied the Number 1 singles were in 2013 compared to now. I think it was probably the last good year we had for chart pop. The further we get into this decade, the smaller the countdown will be as songs would be stuck at Number 1 for months.

I was hooked on that Duke Dumont song when it came out and this would be in my top 5 of 2013. I am guessing this was the start of a deep house revival because I don't remember hearing anything else like this at the time. I'm not a Miley Cyrus fan and it's clear that when she released 'We Can't Stop', it was an attempt to show how grown up she was and that her Hannah Montana days were behind her. However, all the antics with sitting naked on a wrecking ball and twerking on Robin Thicke came across as contrived and a bit desperate. I respect Miley more as an artist after that era as she is more grounded and her talent really shines through.

I am a big fan of Pharrell's music and I loved 'Happy' when it first came out. However, it became overplayed and then I didn't enjoy it as much. That's probably why I preferred his next 2 singles (Marilyn Monroe, Come Get it Bae) as they were not as commercially successful or had a lot of airplay but sounded just as good.

I can't believe you put 'Counting Stars' near the bottom of this countdown. 😱 The song is so uplifting and soulful and I love it. On the other hand, I think that Saturdays song is awful and they have had better songs more worthy of being Number 1. This is so autotuned and overproduced and the feature of Sean Paul is not an improvement.

That Will.i.am and Britney song has not aged well and sounds as if it was put together in 10 minutes from a computer. I didn't watch the X Factor so am not familiar with Sam Bailey and James Arthur. After hearing those 2 songs from them, I'm none the wiser. I also don't like cover versions of songs especially if they sound cut and pasted. You have to make them sound different to the original to impress me. I always have time for Eminem and Rihanna and 'The Monster' is not a bad song. However, it pales in comparison to 'Love The Way You Lie'.

Can't believe 'Just Give Me a Reason' was denied the Number 1 spot by that kid's TV garbage. I don't understand the hype of Jason Derulo either. I swear he is obsessed with sex. He never sings about anything else. 😆

Can't stand 1D so this would be right at the bottom of my countdown too. Although, I don't know what other songs we've got coming so it might change. It always makes me cringe seeing a prime minister featured in a music video, especially David Cameron, who I can't stand.

I wasn't a huge fan of 'Blurred Lines' at the time because it was so overplayed throughout 2013. Also, I feel Robin Thicke had better songs throughout his career than this. The lyrics do give me stalker vibes and I think it would get more complaints if it had been released today. The music video looks so cheap as well with hashtags flashing up every 30 seconds.

Does anyone think that 'Ain't In LA' sounds very Zara Larsson?

I love 'We Are Young'. It might be camper than a Brighton bus queue but the vocals are good and it's uplifting. I also liked Janelle Monae too. She's so talented, as a feature artist and solo. It's a shame she didn't have further success.

I do like that Gotye song. I didn't appreciate it at the time but I do now. It sounds different to a lot of the pop music released in 2012 which is why I put it high in my countdown. Gotye and Kimbra's voices go so well together. Shame they were a one-hit wonder. I love the music video too. So creative. Does anyone else think that Gotye sounds like Sting?
