November 10, 200618 yr I love this film but it got mixed reviews. I think it's fun and easy watching - it's worth £2 :D
November 10, 200618 yr Anyway it's well worth £2. It gets pretty silly at the end but that's really when I begin to enjoy it. Just don't take it too seriously and you'll enjoy too.
November 10, 200618 yr Bargain at £2 quid. And miles better than Roth's over-rated, unctious, xenophobic and borderline racist "Hostel".... I mean, we're supposed to actually identify with two thoroughly unpleasant and ignorant American Frat Boys (frankly, I was almost cheering on the torturers.....), there are two Japanese characters who have frankly LUDICROUS lines of dialogue like "I velly solly". Fukkin' HELL, is this a horror film from 2006 or some John Wayne 'Iwo Jima' propagnda war film from the 1940s.....??? There is no excuse for such bad scripting whatsoever..... The Eastern European characters are such insultingly bland stereotypes as well. As someone who has a Polish girlfriend, I felt embarrassed and offended at the cinema when we watched it and seriously considered walking out of the film. What my girlfriend had to say about it is unrepeatable..... An ignorant American's jaundiced and xenophobic view of Eastern Europe... Well, and Europe in general really.....

WAT THE F are you going on about?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! who uses words such as jaundiced and xenophobic !? I mean come on get grip, this isnt a uni lecture you are in now  You were offended by the stereotypes, oh boo you, just because youre girlfriend is polish  And you are sick if you cheer on the torturers just because they are 'Frat Boys' Its obvious you are one of these annoying know it alls who think there smarter thn everyone else

Also, its obvious the film isnt supposed to be some kind of cinematic classic Its a horror film, which had a bit of gore and was quite scary in parts, thats all it was supposed to be FFS  It beggars belief you bother watching these kind of films when you know perfectly well that you will HATE them <_< Peronally, I felt extremely sorry on the 'Frat Boys' and was cheering on A LOT when the one man got his revenge as was most of the cinema where I was at. Oh but I suppose were all'dumb and have no knowledge' <_<

Oh but I suppose were all'dumb and have no knowledge' <_< Oh, so you're not at all bothered by the petty racism, the xenophobia, the incredibly crass dialogue and pathetic excues for characterisation.... I'd seen "Cabin Fever" and very much enjoyed it and actually looked forward to "Hostel"...So imagine my horror (well, horror for all the WRONG reasons..) to be confronted by such an intelligence-insulting, racist pile of sh!t..... It wasn't scary at all... I'm far more terrified by the idea of a killer that cannot be seen or confronted or reasoned with or escaped from (ie, the air-borne virus in "Cabin Fever"..) than I am by a bunch of "Euro-Trash" reject tw@ts who dress up in PVC aprons and sport the most ridiculous European accents this side of a tacky 1970s British comedy programme... How on earth can you feel any modicum of sympathy for such unctious, pathetically ignorant tossers is beyond me.... Go see "Severance", the same basic idea, done about a thousand times better, and with actual, sympathetic, well-rounded characters who you really DO care about.....
November 10, 200618 yr Oh, so you're not at all bothered by the petty racism, the xenophobia, the incredibly crass dialogue and pathetic excues for characterisation.... Noo, why should I have been

You dont care about them because you cannot relate to them, whereas I can ^_^
November 10, 200618 yr You dont care about them because you cannot relate to them, whereas I can ^_^ I dont care about them because they are not worth caring about...Simple as, the script is so badly written that we're not actually given any reason to like them.. Why should anyone care about a pair of irredeemably ignorant, racist idiots...? Why should I as a European give a sh!t about an American film that totally stereotypes MY European culture...? I expected a lot better from Eli Roth.... Like i say, go see "Severance", even the rather unpleasant or annoying characters have a certain likeability about them because they're actually well written and worth caring about.....
November 10, 200618 yr who uses words such as jaundiced and xenophobic !? You were offended by the stereotypes, oh boo you, just because youre girlfriend is polish  And you are sick if you cheer on the torturers just because they are 'Frat Boys' Anyone with a decent enough vocabulary would use these words.... Yes, I was offended by the stereotypes, anyone with a brain and who has friends from Eastern Europe would be as well.... So, the next film that comes on with racist black stereotypes or white actors who put on black make-up and go around saying lines of dialogue like "yes massa, I be wanting some of your fried chicken" or a Jewish character who says "Oi vey, you want some chicken soup..?" we'll just let go then, yeah.....? Because THAT was about the level of the stereotyping of Japanese and Eastern European people in that film <_< And I said almost cheering on the torturers (actually read the post...) to illustrate the point that the main characters are so badly drawn that you almost want bad stuff to happen to them because they are such badly written one-dimensional arseholes..... But frankly because of all the blatant stereotyping that was going on and the smug, self-satisfied, insulting air of 'we're American and we're great, you Europeans are all fags' sub-texts that were in the film, you're damn right you want to see these two smug American w****rs get their stupid frat boy grins wiped off their faces by the Eastern Europeans who were being so disgustingly stereotyped..... <_< A film with similar stereotyping of blacks or Jews would NEVER have been allowed to be made, simple as....
November 10, 200618 yr Hostel was awful. They tried to recreate the structure of Wolf Creek where for the first half of te film we get emotionally involved with the characters so it's more harrowing when they are tortured but in Hostel I hated all the characters they deserved what they got IMO. The film ran on a completely American set of values where all of the "baddies" were got by the "goody". I felt Cabin Fever, although rough round the edges was inventive and fresh, despite rehashing many other horror films, and it shows the director's genuine appreciation of the genre. Therefore I expected more from Hostel but I found it an absolute pile of trash.
November 11, 200618 yr Noo, why should I have been oh please - so if you watched a movie and it glorified and made fun of attacks on people because of their colour/religion/nationality - that wouldn't bother you one iota? Are you for real, Callum? You're participating in this discussion, but your contributions make you sound about 13. And as for using words like jaundiced or xenophobia - what's wrong with using the English language? They're hardly words you've never heard before and would need the Oxford Disctionary to look up their meaning. Well... maybe not, anyway, but reading this thread and your comments, I'm beginning to wonder.

And no I wasn't offended, its a film and whats the difference between this racism and Borat? Both are racist but both good movies
November 11, 200618 yr I was going to watch Cabin Fever a couple of years ago round my friends house, but we never got round to it. If I see it for a bargain I might get it. I probably wouldn't know what those words mean either, but you can sort of make out what they mean by the context and if not just get a dictionary? And if you don't have one look on the net. November 11, 200618 yr Ive never heard on jaundicedm sorry but I dont read a dictionary in my spare time. ...didn't you ever do English in school? The English language stretches quite a bit further than txtspk, you know, Callum  Trying to be glib and smart whilst almost seeming proud of your lack of knowledge re. the English language - you're not doing yourself any favours, you know. It's far from cool to act dumb. 'Jaundiced' is a common term - I truly don't believe you've never heard it before. As for Borat - it's a comedy movie, ironic and it sails deliberately close to the wind, as most great humour does - Hostel isn't a comedy movie (well, allegedly) - it's a supposedly serious horror film.
November 11, 200618 yr To be fair I don't think many people (especially young people) would know that word. I don't think Callum's much older than me and I don't know it. It's not a common word, I've never heard anyone use it before and I passed both english gcse's so I'm not bad at english.

Well, the main difference between "Hostel" and "Wolf Creek" is that the characters in "Wolf Creek" are genuinely sympathetic and you actually care about them, and not ignorant, racist jock arseholes who frankly deserve everything they get....
