Looking at how fast the latest Shakira record has plummeted down the charts do you think that this album project will be classed as dead in the uk now with no more releases coming from it? and will go along with the last ricky martin records and the delta goodrem 2nd album in being quickly forgotten in this country?

do you think this is going to be a trend?

I don't think Shakira's album will be classed as dead project... the record company should release "Hips Don't Lie" as a summer tune with the right promotion and then if the album still fails to crack the charts it should be classed as dead, but not yet.

I like Shakira, but I'm going to reply as I see it...

The first single 'Don't Bother' was absolute crap IMO, truly awful and the chart result it got reflected that, also helping the album bomb too.

However, I have a feeling the next single 'Hips Don't Lie' will be a big hit and *may* save the album, but then again I'm not sure as most of her core fanbase from years ago will have it already. I can see HDL being a big chav anthem and that may boost the album a bit.

Time will tell I guess...

well if the next single is supposed to be better do you think it will be up to airplay on this tune whether or not sonybmg continues with the project in the uk (im guessing in europe it still will be massive)

I had the Shakira album for a week and got rid of it. Awful record. I don't think they can mine it for hits and I don't think 'Hips Don't Lie' is that great either. Another #9 smash, I reckon.

I don't think it will be a dead project because it made #22 off the back of a rubbish single. The record company will keep trying with little success.

you think so in these cut throat times

Shakira - 1 more single and after that flops too, then it will be dead.

Delta Goodrem - That album was finished before it even began.

Ricky Martin - See Delta.

I know I technically shouldn't be replying being a huge fan to both singers, but I honestly can't see Oral Fixation Vol.2 ever returning to the top 25...

As for Delta, I could use all number of excuses that I will probably be expected to use but the reality is that obviously the UK public were not interested anymore. I just hope that she can make a comeback a la Natalie Imbruglia :-)

well i only said i didnt want the fans replying as i know some fan can be a bit obssessive and dont like the faintest negative remark against them, whereas it was more about the record company's getting rid of album projects in a flash if a lead off single dropps down the chart quickly. as for delta goodrem it was the first act on the same record company that came to mind whose 2nd album just seemed to disappear in this country quite quickly after an inital big push.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I don't know Delta and am not personally offended if someone insults her. I agree that the album was a massive flop in comparison to Innocent Eyes. Some fans try to cover that up but at the end of the day it was...
Because of new edition including `Hips Don`t Lie`, Shakira`s album is going to make an awesome jump from #97 to around #6 on this weeks`s Billboard chart according to Hits Daily Double. Anything can happen.

the single, dont bother, was killed. it was pushed back not by a couple of weeks but a couple of months.

but a re-release of the albums along with hips dont lie will save the album

I Don't think the album is dead, it's only had 1 single on it, and that had been on music channels since December the 15, got no radio airplay at all, and all the major performances were done nearly a month before the single release.

Of course I don't think that it's gonna go multi platinum, but I think it could go gold, if HDL has the right promo. The album was dead in the U.S, don't bother, although certified gold, was a flop (sadly) and the album plummteted down the charts. HDL is number 60 after 2 weeks on the chart, the album has been climbing since the song has had airplay and is supposed to make a huge bang as the re-release this week.

So no, I don't think it's dead, I may be a huge fan but im not delerious, I thought it was dead in the U.S, I feel, that compared to her other successful albums, this album has been a flop. But Laundry Service was a one off, she was thankful for it, but you can tell it's not the music she wanted to make, her english wasnt very advanced, and even though it was a mega successful album, she wasnt comfortable with the huge amount of work and pressure. It's almost like a replication of Magia and Peligro, when sony were trying to do something she didn't want to do,and didnt know much about, with little success. With Laundry Service, she had never ventured into english terrotories, so they told her what to do, with her having some control, and it was massive.

I think that the problem with society is that we assume that if the album doesn't sell well, that the album is not worth buying. Maybe it isnt popular, but it doesnt mean that it's a damn good album, because it is, and it's a hell of a lot better than Laundry Service. Do you expect Alanis Morrissette to sell 30 million of ehr next album, or Michael Jackson to sell 50 million of his next? Of course not. So no, I dont think it's dead and even if it is, it doesn't mean that it's a bad album.

that was fun

I may be a Shakira fan but I'm still gonna reply. The album was a bit of a flop in the US - that's why they recorded 'Hips dont lie' instead of releasing a 2nd single. I think we'll end up with 'Hips dont lie' in the UK. If that doesn't do well, they'll give up on the album in the UK.
well how bad did the second delta album flop?
it went gold here and a few times platinum in Australia
Yeah I think they've both flopped completley and if it wasn't for their die hard fans then they'd be done for. Delta well she became mildy more well know for her thing with the guy from westlife whose name escapes me at the moment........and Shakira well I just associate her with Whenever Wherever, and all the new stuff which I've heard just sounds rubbish compared to that...and so I think there albums are both dead in there own rights.

well hips dont lie is FAB

And i cant wait to hear Delta in the states :D
