Posted November 11, 200618 yr anybody observe the 2 minute silence?.... thought not... war is foul, and the ch4 prog about the somme based on fact highlighted just how utterly WRONG war is.... thousands of youths sent to their deaths for nothing, kill or be killed.... ww1 was horrific, all war is horrific, killing is against all religious teachings, life is precious.... so how tf did these events ever happen? tbh it moves me... i get emotional when i hear first hand testiments about the wars, its just simply WRONG. trouble is........ things will only get worse in the future, terrorism, the unseen killer.... why cant the human race see what is clearly right and wrong? clearly 'god' isnt doing a very good job over 'his' message, or maybe 'he' is the problem....

November 11, 200618 yr My grandad fought at the Somme. And Ypres. And Arras. I have photos of him crossing no-mans land. He survived WW1. He actually wrote articles in the papers recalling his experiences in the trenches. I think those articles are the most heart-rending things I've ever read in my life. He died in his 50s of coal mine related lung disease. I never knew him. :(
November 11, 200618 yr Yeah its people that fought in the wars that are the REAL people who should be described as heroes, these days you get the media talking about a "heroic performance to come back to win from 2-1 down" when it is outrageous for them to talk about heroism from bloody footballers when the real heroic performances were on battlefields and trenches

November 11, 200618 yr Of course. I'll get the photos and news cuttings. They're in a big bundle stashed at the top of my mum's wardrobe. It'll need to be the abridged version though. His accounts run to thousands of words. ( They are quite gruesome and matter of fact but I guess when you see people getting blown to bits day after day you must get a bit de-sensitised to all of it).
