September 1, 20195 yr Author Festival da Canção returns to select Portugal's Eurovision entry in March next year. The rules are very similar to the 2019 edition with 16 songs competing across two semi-finals, culminating in a final of 8 songs. 14 of the songs will by songwriters invited by RTP from various musical backgrounds, who will write a song alone or with other writers to be performed at the national final. The performers of the song will be selected by the songwriters, with final versions of the songs being submitted by 30 November 2019. The fifteenth songwriter will be selected through the radio show, MasterClass. The show promotes Portuguese music and supports new songwriters without published works. The songwriter will be selected by a jury made up of the show’s resident musician, the host of the show and Antena 1’s director, Rui Pêgo. Finally, the last songwriter will be selected through an open song submission. Songwriters entering the selection must be a citizen of Portugal. Songs must be submitted to RTP via email (festivaldacancao@rtp.pt) by 15 October 2019. The winner of the open song submission will be selected by 31 October 2019. https://escxtra.com/2019/08/20/16-songs-wil...ival-da-cancao/
January 15, 20205 yr The 16 songs have dropped and they...are about as good as you'd expect from Portugal. The three leaders of the pack seem to be the band Blasted with the song "Rebellion" nLk_Qhdpz4U But if your FdC audience don't really go for that (it's also the only song entirely in English of the 16) then don't rule out something like this delicate soul ballad taking it mJN7sZGthvE
January 15, 20205 yr Oh my god I think my Conan hate is well documented, but I hope initial buzz follows through into a victory again because "Rebellion" has me very much on board. It's fantastic! I never thought the day would come where I'd be ready to stan Portugal
January 16, 20205 yr so we get cult dancing last year and mosh pits this year. Portugal is finally stepping up
January 16, 20205 yr Let's all move on from the past and turn our attention to what lies ahead for Portugal ^_^ xx This has overtaken Blasted on Youtube views so looks to be another big contender. It's very French, very Disney sounding, and would still be the best thing they've sent size Suzy MaHPLCFusTM
January 20, 20205 yr Passe-Partout is very charming indeed <3 Sounds like it's come from a musical. Fingers crossed that wins! Rebellion is quite good too, albeit it somehow sounds a bit like The Script covering Linkin Park. I also really like Gerbera Amarela do Sul, nice little melody running through that. The other 13 songs did nothing for me unfortunately.
March 8, 20205 yr Elisa won Hmmm. Still an improvement on their past three entries, but the jury screwed over Passe-Partout :(
March 8, 20205 yr Elisa wins the final national final of 2020 after the juries completely screwed the televote favourite (sound familiar?) p-aAPJAr0gs I think this is probably an easier sell than Passe-Partout and could potentially get enough to sneak 10th and then come 26th in the final but it is Portugal so they're still just as likely to mess it up.
