Perhaps we can all agree that at least *some* pollsters will have egg on their faces...

BTW, I can't remember an election where there was so little credence given to the polls. :o

Let's not count our chickens yet Vid. Look at 2017.

Hundreds of student voters in Cardiff IN A MARGINAL cannot vote due to "errors". Hmm. 100s of errors in one place - a marginal at that - across a demographic likely to vote Labour. What are the chances of so many errors in one place! Nice little coincidence.

What sort of error and do you have a link Michael? Where did you see it?

Just got up so haven't seen any news yet.

I just hope we won't be needing the UN to oversee the US and UK elections in a few years.

Being disingenous again, Michael - the story is real, but your spin on it is worthy of Boris :P - none of the 4 Cardiff seats are marginal, at least according to yougov. And Cardiff council is Labour controlled, so your insinuation of 'foul play' has no credence.

Yes just checked Electoral Calculus and none are predicted to change hands Michael. 200 votes makes no difference there.

EDIT. Double post.

Whatever the result/how safe a seat is, 200 people are unable to exercise a right to vote. These things shouldn’t be happening.

No it shouldn't but hey in life these things do happen.

I agree, but sometimes sh1t happens. :(

Wow.

Where were you both when suggesting stronger measures against voter fraud on single digit convictions in the whole 2017 election? That was a problem I recall you being very concerned about. How incredibly disingenuous to come out with a ‘these things happen’ line because it effects 200 students, who clearly you’d rather not be voting. Disenfranchisement is no joke. That reports of it come out nearly every election is nothing short of shameful.

It's not voter fraud though. It's an "admin error". There is no suggestion of fraud.

Stop trying to put words into my mouth.

MY only intention was to point out to Michael that this was in no way partisan.

Cardiff council received around 1,000 invalid applications - with 800 people being contacted about the error. However, it is understood that the 200 or so students caught up by the problem have not received any correspondence about it.

Details on what constituencies of those left out have not been revealed.

Jess Blair, director of the Electoral Reform society Cymru, said: "Those who have registered in good faith and in good time should not be denied their say due to an address system error.

"If this is confirmed to be a mistake on the part of Cardiff Council, we would hope the authority do the right thing and rectify this error, rather than risk disenfranchising people for no fault of their own."

In response, the council said it is was not up to the Electoral Registration Officer to chase up invalid applications.

A spokesman said: "The national electoral registration website allows electors to provide addresses manually when registering to vote and unfortunately, a number of people living in student accommodation have supplied incomplete addresses. Without the full and accurate address, including flat and room numbers, it is not possible to add individuals to the register.

Cardiff Central has 98% chance of staying Labour - 17,000 majority in 2017.

Nothing would happen anyway, it's pointless protesting. They won't rerun the election.

I just hope it doesn't happen in marginal seats like Canterbury which will be close.
