Posted November 15, 200618 yr A SCOTS pensions worker who turned his back on a career in finance has landed a dream job as a backing dancer on Kylie Minogue's comeback tour. Alan Lambie left Stirling University at 21 with an honours degree in economics and within a year was a senior data assistant with an Edinburgh pensions firm. But Alan had always dreamed of a glamorous stage career. So, when he found out about a full-time dance course at a nearby college, he took the plunge and quit his job. Now, five years after leaving behind his office routine, Alan, 27, is one of only six male dancers on Kylie's Showgirl Homecoming world tour. She was forced to postpone the tour after being diagnosed with breast cancer in May last year but at the weekend returned to the stage in Sydney. Alan, from Whitburn, West Lothian, said: "I am a big fan of Kylie, so to walk on stage with her every night is just a dream come true. "I can't believe that five years ago I was working in a boring office. "It was a bit of a gamble leaving my job but it paid off and I am now performing on stage with one of my idols." LITTLE STARS PARENTS are naming kids after music, showbiz and sport stars. Kylie is the most popular "musical" name. It was given to 7261 girls born after 1984, in honour of the Aussie pop princess. For boys, golf star TigerWoods's first name came out top in a study. It was chosen for 1191 youngsters. The research was carried out by findmypast.com, a UK-based family history website. Spokeswoman Sarah Malone said: "It seems many of us are happy to take hero worship to a whole new level. "But the British sense of humour is alive and well, with six parents naming their son Gandalf, one Harry Potter and two Supermans."
