Charged by the CPS here in the UK in her absence so she'll have to be extradited. Sky saying Trump can use his Presidential Executive powers to stop an extradition but let's hope he doesn't do that.

Hope we all agree that she shouldn't get away with this. Let's hope we can get her back.

A US woman will be charged with causing the death of teenage motorcyclist Harry Dunn by dangerous driving.

Mr Dunn, 19, died in a road crash in Northamptonshire in August that led to suspect Anne Sacoolas leaving for the US under diplomatic immunity.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said it had started extradition proceedings through the Home Office.

The US State Department said it did not believe the decision was "a helpful development".

Mr Dunn's mother Charlotte Charles said the family was "relieved" Mrs Anne Sacoolas had "finally" been charged but there was still a long way to go"

It's very, very rare for the US to allow its citizens to be deported to be tried for crimes in other countries.

Yes Michael that's exactly what Sky's legal correspondent says, that Trump will probably block it, as he can block any extradition as President, but they're also saying would that look good in an election year, letting her get off scot free? Also would it help the UK-US special relationship?

Reported from the US that Mrs Anne Sacoolas will "resist and fight extradition."

Someone on DS said "I'd put the chances of her ever appearing in a British court about the same as Corbyn fighting the next election"

It shouldn't even be necessary - the moral anguish of having killed someone should have been enough to turn herself in...

Yes I agree and she should come over here voluntarily now and hand herself in at a police station and face the music. It was an accident as she was on the wrong side of the road. No-one's saying she meant to kill him so it's manslaughter.

Her lawyers will oppose extradition on the grounds that she won't get a fair trial now due to all the publicity.

Barmy - it's not like we're some Third World dictatorship!

She should be treated like everyone else here if she's done wrong!

Well she will be if we ever get her here. Could take months or even years with appeals.

IMO the whole concept of diplomatic immunity is decidedly iffy.

The concept is perfectly reasonable. It is to allow diplomats to perform their job without interference from repressive regimes. However, its sweeping nature (to avoid endless discussions about what is covered and what is not) allows people to avoid perfectly reasonable laws and means that countries like the US owe millions of pounds in unpaid parking fines and the London congestion charge.

Weeeellllll now that you mention it...

Should she appear in court in the UK? Absolutely.

Will she? Not a chance.

I agree unfortunately.

Lets do a deal - if the US doesn't extradite her, they don't get Assange! ;)

Or any trade deals. Oh and they can close all their air bases here too and take their personnel and nuclear missiles home.

That's OTT - Assange should be more than enough!
