Posted November 15, 200618 yr Robbie Williams has the most albums in the top 100 Best Selling Albums Ever http://www.purerobbie.com/photoplog/images/1/large/1_06rudeboxpromo43wb7.jpg In THE most anticipated chart of all time, VH1 has teamed up with The Official UK Charts Company to release a definitive list of the Top 100 Best Selling Albums ever. This chart is not another poll voted for by the critics or viewers of a TV programme; it is a chart made up of actual sales figures from the last fifty years, unveiling who really has had the best selling album of all time; a fact that has never been revealed before, until now on VH1’s ‘Nation’s Favourite Album.’ VH1’s ‘Nation’s Favourite Album’ which transmits 18th November on VH1 at 6pm, reveals that legendary rockers Queen have outsold all other artists to claim the coveted title of the UK’s favourite album with their Greatest Hits compilation selling a staggering 5,407,587. The Beatles are in second place with ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band.’ Cementing their place in music history, third place goes to Oasis, with ‘What’s The Story Morning Glory’: Top Ten Top Selling Albums of All Time: Queen – Greatest Hits - 5,407,587 Beatles – Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band - 4,803,292 Oasis – What’s The Story Morning Glory - 4,304,504 Dire Straits – Brothers In Arms - 3,946,931 ABBA – Gold Greatest Hits – 3,932,316 Pink Floyd – The Dark Side of The Moon – 3,759,958 Queen – Greatest Hits II – 3,631,321 Michael Jackson – Thriller – 3,570,250 Michael Jackson – Bad – 3,549,950 Madonna – The Immaculate Collection – 3,364,785 The VH1 extravaganza hosted by Alex James, will make for compulsive viewing as he counts down the chart uncovering data that has never been revealed to the public, record companies and more importantly the artists themselves. A team of researchers from The Official UK Charts Company have worked tirelessly for over six months, trawling through hand written till receipts from the 1950’s to the most current sales figures, to announce information that will send shock waves through the music industry. Astonishingly music luminaries such as Rolling Stones, Sting, The Sex Pistols and Bob Dylan do not have a single album in the top 100 and have been pipped to the post by artists such as Jason Donovan and Robson & Jerome. Relative newcomers David Gray and James Blunt have pushed some of the biggest names of all time out of the Top 100, proving that music from every decade still has an incredible impact whether it is from contemporary artists such as Coldplay or old school musicians such as Simon & Garfunkel. Heart-throb Robbie Williams walks away with the accolade of having the most album entries in the Top 100 with six, followed by Brit pop legends Oasis, Michael Jackson and Canadian warbler Celine Dion each with three album entries. Highlighting the current trend of re-invention; the soundtracks from Dirty Dancing and The Sound of Music come in at number 36 and 37 respectively. VH1’s ‘Nation’s Favourite Album’ on the 18th November at 6pm will be presented by Alex James and will be shown as a continuous five hour countdown. These sought after facts and figures will be interspersed with a plethora of interviews from leading figures from the music and entertainment industries. The ‘Nation’s Favourite Album’ countdown will be followed on November 20th by 10x60 hour spin-off shows. November 15, 200618 yr Author The sales are wrong. GH has passed 2 million, IBEY was certified 10x platinum in 2004 meaing it has sold over 3 million and should be in the top 15 and also Sing has sold nearly 2.4 million. Bad by MJ also sold alot more than Thriller in the UK
November 15, 200618 yr Can you go and tell them Scotty please..it's got to be put right . :cheer: Can't see Westlife in there. :puke2:
November 15, 200618 yr Author So how many of the Top 100 do we each have? Quite alot for me ^_^ I'll count them later B) Apperently club sales have'nt been included for some albums  And now Westlife thankfully :yahoo: But if you ask Louis Walsh he would say they are #1 just like he claims they have sold 40 million  They have sold between 9-14 million albums in Europe and hardly anything anywhere else. Only had 1 succesful album in Austrrailia which has only sold 140,000 -_-
November 16, 200618 yr GMTV really annoy me. :arrr: I was watching this morning when they were talking about this list. They mentioned Queen, The Beatles etc as topping the list. Then said 'albums from Oasis, Madonna and Kylie' also appear in the Top 100. Absolutely no mention of the fact Robbie has 6 in the Top 100.
November 16, 200618 yr  that is a definate slight because there is no-way it could be overlooked. Do the have a phone number Jupiter? I never watch morning TV but lately that Fiona whathername and GMTV have annoyed me too from reports like this. They are reporting a fact but not the complete facts especially on one that is highlighted on its own merit.
November 16, 200618 yr Im glad I never watched breakfast tv this morning :arrr: why would they not mention it on purpose though
November 16, 200618 yr Fiona apparently hates Robbie. She has said so. And of course she's married to the Big Boss of GMTV. <_<
November 16, 200618 yr She certainly seems to. I tend to avoid TV when she's on as I think she's a terrible presenter anyway. But I remember some threads about her on TRWS. Think she's been throwing in the sly 'digs' about him for quite some time now. <_<
November 17, 200618 yr From http://torontosun.com Fri, November 17, 2006 Queen rules -- in album sales By BILL HARRIS, TORONTO SUN Queen is king. This is not according to a listeners' poll or a survey of critics, but rather the cold hard facts -- strictly in terms of albums sold in the United Kingdom. The Official UK Charts Company has released a list of the 100 best-selling albums of all time in the UK. And topping the list -- perhaps surprisingly to North American music fans -- is Queen's Greatest Hits, which was released in 1981. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by the Beatles (1967) was No. 2, while (What's The Story) Morning Glory by Oasis (1995) was No. 3. (For a complete list of all 100 albums, see chart at right.) Obviously, a list of this kind is weighted heavily in favour of more current releases, simply because there are more people in the world now than there were 20, 30 or 40 years ago. That's why you'll find someone like Robbie Williams, who basically is a non-factor on this side of the Atlantic Ocean, emerging with no fewer than six entries in the UK top 100, while the Beatles have only three.   The list also has far more "greatest hits" and "best of" packages than normally are seen on subjective lists of this sort. That's why, despite all those classic albums the Beatles released, one of their three entries on this list is the greatest-hits package 1, which was released in 2000, a full three decades after the band's demise. A VH1 television program counting down the UK's all-time top 100 albums will be broadcast this week. VH1 is not legally available in Canada. Coincidentally for Queen fans, the musical stage show We Will Rock You, which is based on the music of Queen, is scheduled to begin performances in Toronto next March. --------------
